OEM Coilover Differences

Can someone explain the difference between the various OEM front coilovers on our vehicles? I have a 16 SR5 4wd. I am looking to buy a set of takeoffs, as I want to powdercoat the springs red and install them on a set of 5100s. A poor mans TRD. I have only seen Trail or Off-road coils on Craigslist.

My shocks are labeled 21. Every one on CL is labeled 22. What is the difference? Is a spring a spring? 4wd vs 2wd spring? XREAS Springs?

All of the post facelift SR5 and Trail 4wds should all have the same suspension. No XREAS except in limiteds. Someone can feel free to correct me, but I don't think KDSS equipped vehicles have any different springs/shocks. TRDs do, of course. As do 2wds (at least up front).

I was researching this a couple weeks ago after installing 5100s upfront on my SR5 4x4. The passenger and driver springs are definitely different, they are side specific. From what I found, the springs on a SR5 4x2 are different from 4x4, and the passenger/driver springs are reverse swapped compared to 4x4. The OEM part numbers are different for 2wd with and without sport suspension (I think this was the XREAS? not sure), and for 4wd with and without KDSS as well as with 17inch wheels, or with 20inch wheels. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, it's a little confusing

I'm not sure if it was ever verified, but take-off strut assembly's from a 2016+ 4wd Tacoma should give you about an inch of lift.

So it appears the SR5 has a right and left spring, while dynamic suspension models have both the same. Has anyone reading this lifted an SR5 with 5100s and the stock springs? Did it stay level?

I have a SR5 4x4 with 5100s at the .85 setting upfront with stock springs, completely factory rear suspension, and my measurements are:

Front Passenger 35 3/4"
Front Driver 35 5/8"
Rear Passengger 36 3/4"
Rear Driver 36 1/2"

Measured from ground up to center of wheel well. I believe the SR5 4x2 models may sit a little lower than 4x4 models

The first time I did the installation we didn't realize that the springs were side specific, so there was an inch difference between the passenger front and driver front. Had to redo the install and swap sides to get it basically even.
