OEM Head unit question.

Just got my 23 SR5. I can't believe Toyota cheaps out with their head units with the SR5's. No HD radio or Navigation. Is there any way to upgrade and get either on the unit? Mine has a Map button.It says Gracnote on it.
If not, can I just swap it with another oem unit that has those options if I can find one?

You could probably find the add on

link below shows the gps add on , could try sourcing the gps. Im not sure if toyota sells it separately though. If wanting to swap it out with a gps unit its possible but will require searching for a head unit pending how much you want to spend.

Psh, I would call that a good thing. At least it made the MSRP more tolerable. The $1,600 "PREMIUM AUDIO" is the worst value I've ever seen; it was already dated when it got put in the 4Runner four years ago, and upcharging $1,600 for it is ridiculous. Very few people rely on manufacturer navigation now, Carplay and Android Auto have taken over for good reason.

I found it impossible to acquire a TRD Offroad without the PrEmIuM AuDiO option ticked. I eventually gave up and just bought a TRD Offroad Premium (includes premium audio) to at least get better value out of the overall package.

Does the non-premium audio head unit look any different on 2020+? Picture? I've never seen one.

Carplay and Android Auto is all you need, unless you're still using a flip phone.

the display and buttons are all the same, it seems the OP wants the function of the "maps" button . The head unit with gps has another housing case on the bottom of unit and a few extra wires. You can google it and see the differences. As for the OP I'd just stick with the car play / android auto vs OEM GPS.

Absolutely, agreed. Carplay/AA has better maps, maps that routinely get updated, and generally better navigation functionality and better simultaneous nav/music use from your phone.

I like that the factory nav will show upcoming turns and stuff in the small gauge cluster screen. I wish Carplay/AA did that. Otherwise, it's all positives to Carplay/AA. Pretty sure the base stereo has Carplay/AA, right?

Seriously OP, be happy that you didn't blow $1,600 on factory nav when google maps does it better anyway.

Thanks guys. I just had all that stuff on my Tacoma that I traded for the 4runner and missed some of it a little. I'll get used to not having it though. Just thought if it was an easy add on or upgrade, I would consider doing it. It sorta just drives me nuts when you have a button that doesn't do what it says it should do.

would try the following , make an offer on it. Limited demand for it so should hopefully be able to get a decent price. It does show the wires needed to connect to the current head unit.
