OEM NAVs that work w/ 4R4

Hello All,

Ok, with some research, here is what I found to work for 2003-2009 4Runners:

E7001 - Solara Navigation: Digital Amp, Need JBL amp, buttons light Green.
E7003 - Camry Navigation: Analog Amp, Need JBL amp, single disc, SAT, buttons light Green.
E7005 - 4Runner Navigation: (2005), Need JBL Amp. Single Disk, No SAT function, Buttons light Orange.
E7006 – Tundra/Sequoia Navigation: Need JBL Amp, Single CD, No SAT function, Buttons light Green.
E7007 – Sienna: (2006), Digital Amp w/MP3, 4 Disc, Bluetooth, Need JBL Amp, Buttons light Green.
E7008 - 4Runner Navigation: (2006), Digital Amp w/MP3, 4 Disc, Bluetooth, Need JBL Amp, Buttons light Orange.
E7009 – Camry Navigation (2007), Solara (07-08), Sienna (06-10): JBL Digital Amp, w/MP3, built-in 4 disc changer, SAT (module is separate), Bluetooth, Need JBL Amp, Buttons light Green.
E7019 – Corolla/RAV4 Navigation: Single disc, Plug n Play (non-JBL), Buttons light Orange.
E7023 - Sienna/Tundra (?): Non-JBL, SAT, Plays MP3, Buttons light Green.

This is not inclusive. I may have omitted some features only b/c I don’t know. What I listed here is what I’ve found on this forum………..I’ve seen if you DON’T have JBL, you can still install a Nav unit, although it certainly helps a ton if you DO. If you have JBL w/ steering wheel controls, the Nav units will work with them.

Summary: Best to install an E7005 or E7008 since they did come with it from the factory in Japan. Thing is: E7005 doesn’t have the MP3/4 disc changer/Bluetooth (making it undesirable). E7008 is clearly the one to have, but apparently are very difficult to get (I think b/c they are manufactured in Japan as opposed to the others which are made here). The only problems I see with the E7007, 7009 is that the buttons light up green. (don't know alot about the E7006)

Questions:

1)Is it really plug n play with these ??? I’ve read that you have to connect the Vehicle Speed Signal AND back up light signal with some of them???

2)Can one have the LEDs changed to light orange and if so, where (company) and how much approximately??

3)Some (most) of these units come with the back up camera feature, what Toyota part number will I need to have this feature functioning??

4)Many say of a gap issue with the center console bezel (side vents), is there a Toyota part number as to which correct bezel to get??

5)Any additional hardware I need to fit the OEM Nav??

I have a 2005 Limited with the 10speaker, 6 disk, JBL head unit. I was very interested in getting the 7008, 7007, 7009 units. I’ve been looking all day and found much information, but no real “how to” link and the links that have pictures are no longer working. Anyway......

1. I read it is plug and play. You're correct, you will need to tap the VSS and possibly reverse. Depending on model, you might also have to rig a seperate speaker for the voice guidance.

4. You want the bezel of the single disc CD player.

Good start to your research! I know it can be a little overwhelming and I was in your shoes a few months ago, but it is worth it in the end. Some of the info you'll find is a bit dated and the process is easier than you think. Finding the E7008 Fac Nav I wanted was the most difficult part. Patience Kemosabi... Get the nav you want, not the E7003 or E7019 since its analog, and I can help you finish your goal.

Speed signal is required, it will tell our Nav ETA ect... I originally grounded my reverse but tapped it to eventually add reverse camera. The process is very simple

Yes, it has been done before, I've read it is difficult to find someone who will actually do it, plus you always run the risk of ruining your investment, stick with the E7008 for amber lighting. I'm really glad I did

US Toyota Part Depts does not sell many part needed, however Canadian dealer will. Call Vancouver Toyota Parts and ask for Steve (604) 530-3156. He deals with US customers (including myself) and will be an excellent resource]

5)Any additional hardware I need to fit the OEM Nav?? Since you have JBL make sure you get a GPS antenna, Nav DVD, 5 pin wire harness (Voice Nav), SW harness, Reverse and speed taps and you should be good to go. Again call Steve

THANKS for your responses!! I know the the E7008 is the one to get, but it's crazy difficult to get. Ordering one from will be VERY cost prohibitive, so if I can't get it on ebay, then it's a no-go. I'll settle for an E7007 (most common on ebay) or E7009. I thought I saw a company that will change the LEDs out for you, I just can't find the link.

1) Regarding what you said about SW harness, what is that?? Steering wheel harness? I thought the bluetooth and mic were incorporated on the headunit in the E7008+ models??
2) What pins/wires to splice into and WHERE are the wires I have to connect them to? (i know the VSS is behind the instrument cluster somewhere and reverse signal wire is behind the radio (or behind the climate controls, somewhere), but what colors are they??? The info posted on this forum refers to other forums and pics that are long gone......
3) Your NAVI unit just bolted in?? No brackets to use??

Have '03 - is the JBL amp the same as later models? Under the impression it used an analog while later models used digital? Seems the 03 Nav had a separate DVD map player unit and others were part of head unit. I'd like to get a 06up (?) that plays MP3s CDs and support an Aux in for ipod/iphone integratioon.

the PDF file I was given is NOT to a 4Runner, but to a 2007 Tundra. I haven't recieved my toyota original NAV unit (E7009) yet, I'm seeing that almost all have the same wiring. So these instructions should be very helpful. PM me, I'll send them to ya if you still want them.

Hey dude, not to hijack your thread but if you end up not being able to use the OEM nav you have, I have my Urban Runner OEM Tom Tom Nav with Ipod controls and blue tooth if you're interested.

I'm a motivated kind of a guy, I'll find out how to hook up my NAV. Plus, I already ordered the factory MIC and right side bluetooth controls for my wheels, so to say the least, I'm in deep, hahhaa. Thanks for the offer!:hatsoff:

What's the reason to go with a digital unit vs an analog unit? If you don't have the JBL amp wouldn't the analog E7019 be fine if the stock head unit in non-jbl systems is analog (or is it digital)?

I think he was just telling someone with JBL that the E7019 and E7003 wouldnt work for them. If you do not have JBL then yes you want to go with the E7019, I am not as familiar with the e7003, but that one will probably work for you too. I am in the process of installing the E7019 in my 4Runner (just waiting on the correct Nav disc)

The E7003 and E7008 does not give street names. It does give turn by turn, but along the lines of "Left turn in half a mile.", "U S one oh one is on the left.", "Exit I80 west is on the right.", etc. It gives the audible voice about two miles ahead of exit on the freeway and maybe a half a mile in the city. When you're at the exit on the freeway or intersection in the city, it'll give two beeps at that location.
