OEM Rear Bumper Replacement?

I would get an estimate from a Toyota shop and compare with SF estimate. Have them cut a check and get an aftermarket bumper (Shrockworks). That way next time someone smacks ya they will be on the losing end.

Does anybody know whether all the 5th Gen SR5 rear bumpers are interchangeable? As in, I have a 2012 with a rear bumper that needs replacing, but I've heard that 2015 had a better departure angle just from the bumper. Can I swap a 2015 bumper onto mine?

I would say yes. I did a similar bumper swap (2016 limited) which is identical to a 2012 Sr5 bumper. I swapped it out for a TRD bumper. It’s same as Sr5 bumper but the slots for the valance are pre-cut. Only thing you’ll need to change out are the mud flaps for Sr5 bumper and valance if you do the TRD bumper. Also you’ll need a pair of deflectors.

Yes and no. The 2014+ SR5 bumper cover is not as bulky and has higher sides. So sure your bumper has a little more clearance on the sides and is less likely to get snagged but not really by much. It doesn't however increase departure angle. The lowest point in the rear is the hitch and that doesn't change by swapping bumper covers. So the departure angle will be the same regardless of which bumper cover you choose.

Wouldn't you need to paint match it? AFAIK Limiteds come in Blizzard Pearl and TRD-OR and SR5 models only come in Super White which is more of a flat white.

Might I suggest getting an SR5 bumper so you don't deal with the stupid valance falling off when a feather grazes it.

I have a TRD OR and that's my plan unless steel comes up first. My rear bumper is all kinds of chewed up from dragg'in dat ass in the desert.

You would pocket the difference from the pro bumper/valances and have a better departure angle (be it half inch or less).

Any new bumper will have to be paint matched. They don't come painted.

But, ditto on the SR5 bumper.

i have both the sr5 and the trd rear bumpers. i never really compared the side heights. but that's good to know. as for the paint, yes i got my rear bumper painted to match the rest of the truck :thumb3:

Seems like the State Farm guy should be able to tell if it's an OEM replacement or not. It's his job right? Or at least he could find out for you - right? Pretty lame.

Bumping this instead of starting my own thread.

TRD OR bumper looks like trash. Series of bad decision and aggressive driving offroad has left it bedlined with no valance (looks as good as you might imagine).

Anyways I'm over it and dialing back the offroad abuse a tad. Trying to swap over to SR5 plastics. Finding a used bumper in decent condition is proving to be an exercise in patience.

Good condition painted bumpers seem to go for about 200-600 depending. I could buy a new OEM bumper for 200 and get it painted for another 250-350ish.

Anyone have some good website to search for salvaged bumpers?

Hey Mutant,

Not sure if there is one in your area, but in Denver there is a place called the Yota Yard.
It's a junk yard of only Toyota parts. However, I've also been looking for SR5 bumpers (in silver) and they haven't had any for a few months, so I'm still waiting as well. Perhaps you can get lucky if there is a similar place near you.... Happy hunting!

Thanks! Yeah I'm thinking patience is the name of the game here. Been calling yard to yard asking if they have current model runners I pretty much get "....no, nooooo, sorry man not here."

Might end up caving and dropping the 500 or so for a fresh bumper painted.

If your in the Bay Area. I have a free rear Sr5 bumper in good condition but requires paint to match.

MaddoxPics or anyone, what is the cost to replace with OEM bumper? I have a situation and talking to state farm about options.

Thank you,

Danny

My bumper was able to be saved. They just bent it back to shape and also fixed the cracks in it. I have no idea what a new bumper would cost from factory. I would try to find a totaled one in a junk yard or pick and pull and hopefully save a lot there. Assuming bumper is in good condition.

Believe if you buy an unpainted bumper they’re in the $200-$300 range. But then you need it painted which will be ideally another $200-$400.
