Thanks, I understand it's normal.
But is there any additional armor which can easily be added there and will not require buying all skid plates for $2.5k?
OK, so just plastic.
Gotcha.
Thank you!
P.S. What trim is your 4r?
2016 Limited. Another angle. Definitely a small skid plate there on mine.

Toyota only offers the TRD which is weak in itself but there's nothing OEM that goes further back. My Bud Built skids were just over $1K, not 2.5.
That’s not plastic. Some heavy ass steel. Not kidding.
Steel? Is it aftermarket?
A heavy piece of steel dangling back there off of two bolts?
Its molded carbon plastic, very light. I just checked mine to make sure. Toyota has been putting them on 4runners since 2003. I had it on a 2008 Sport and a 2015 Limited. Its not a skid plate. It keeps debris away from the front driveshaft u joint.
Interesting. My 2018 does not have that plate. Or maybe it did but the dealer oil changer forgot to reinstall it after my first “free” oil change.
Anybody have a part number for it?
