OEM Trail Edition Skid Plate

I'm having a hell of a time finding and replacement OEM front skid plate. I even called the dealer and he told me that after including my VIN their system shows that they don't make one anymore. It showed the TRDP version as the only one that would fit, but as we know it's not compatible with KDSS. I find it hard to believe that a 2014 Toyota would already have discontinued parts, but even my own googling is coming up short. The reason I'm looking for OEM is because I assumed it would be the cheapest route (through an online OEM supplier) and I'm still considering selling my rig so I don't want to spend the money on a nice one. Can anyone with access to the parts database check and confirm that Toyota doesn't make an OEM replacement for a 5th gen with KDSS?

Try again but ask to talk with someone experienced in the parts department.
 
Toyota will prob blast you in the ass for that crappy skid plate. Might as well buy an aftermarket one and make it look cooler....might make it sell quicker anyway. $220 for an RCI skid plate (might be cheaper ones out there)...or I assume $150-$200 or something outrageous for a OEM. For the price difference I would go aftermarket just so I don't have to interact with a dealership, deal their BS prices, or their incompetence, and countless ways they waste your time.
 
I have the 2016 Trail OEM skids in my garage as well. No dents no damage. And the hardware. Same as the guy above-let me know if interested.

After denting the hell out of mine, I called the parts department to price the TRD and stock one. TRD was right at $300, stock was $330. I bought the TRD and will modify to fit.

Just incase you don't have enough options already lol, I have my trail skid with hardware also. Not sure if it matters but I have KDSS too.

Now you have options, TRD plate, RCI plate and at least 3 other members that are willing to help you out w/o having to go to the dealership again! :thumb3:
 
Thanks guys. I never had any intention of buying it from the dealership unless they price matched an online OEM supplier, but usually they're at least good for finding part #'s. Apparently that was too much to ask this time. I did see the RCI one, but it end up being $285 before shipping for the KDSS version powder coated black. I will reach out to you guys about your stock ones, thank you.

What needs to be done to the TRDP version to make it fit with KDSS? I didn't know that was a thing.
 
OEM skid plate

You don't want a used one from some guy who never dinged it up. You want one that has character, skid marks and dents. I'll sell you mine as soon as I replace it with an RCI or similar brand 3/16" steel plate. Hardware included only if I can get it out in one piece. I'm ready. Make me an offer.

Its been done by several around here, myself included. Bolts right up after modding with zero issues, lightweight (no sag), and looks good. You can find some pics on my thread.

Mine has more than enough "character", that's the problem lol. It may not make much of a difference but I'm thinking certain buyers will see that and be like "if the skid plate is that f'ed, what about the rest of the vehicle?"

That's impressive!!!

But quick question, with all that beating on it (haha), did the KDSS piston or sway bar ever get seriously knocked or beat up because of the skid?

Nope. Other than some minor scrapes and dents when I was a noob driver, pretty much all of that damage happened in one incident. I hit a decent sized rock while driving pretty quickly and it smashed the middle and tacoed the sides. So to answer your question, fortunately the middle area is clear of hitting anything and since the outer parts were pushed down they stayed clear of the sway bar and KDSS piston. Here another recent pic after I drove through a frozen puddle, then it stayed below freezing for a week.

You find sliders specifically for 4Runners......or is it sliders off any random 4x4 that you then rig up?

Just curious because now you have me thinking...I can't believe there would be many 5th gen 4runners in a junkyard with sliders still attached....

In Colorado there are.

The Denver area scrapyards are pretty good pickings.

You just have to keep coming back because Toyotas get picked clean the first 2-3 days they get in.
