Off Road Compilation Video!

I put together a video of some of the 4WD trips we've gone on this past year in our stock 2006 4runner. I really want to show that you don't need modifications to do a lot of the trails around Colorado! Your comments and critiques are appreciated!

I really want to show that you don't need modifications to do a lot of the trails around Colorado!

I have taken 3 or 4 owners out in their stock rigs for their first off-road trips and each time they are amazed at what our vehicles can do even stock. Usually they get hooked though and end up modifying for even better off-highway prowess.

Nice.

I enjoyed the footage of Handcart Gulch. Also, a very good shot of ATRAC working early in the video. Any dents on the running boards yet?

Well, we have avoided any dents in the running boards until driving lake como road in the middle of the night. Poor running boards.

As well, the skid plates look terrible. They are bent in completely to the gas tank in some spots. They are scraped and bent. I think I need new ones! Can the stealership replace them if you bring it in?

Why would you want stock skids again?

You should get some nicer ones like Budbuilts.

Very nice vid!:bigok:

I agree with CF15, why? If you're going to keep that up I'd go for a Daystar 2.5/1.5 and on those trails you'd get little/no damage. First thing, IMHO, would be to get it up a bit, let the skids stay as they are until you can $pring for some good ones.

The problem is that it's a progre$$ive di$ease: It starts with a little lift, then tires, then skids, then a coilover lift then...:D The trick, IMHO, to not breaking the bank is understand that anything you do is compromise. Know that there is no mod that is "perfect". Set a defined goal and stick to it. As you set the goal try to balance the on-road vs off-road performance as your personal needs dictate.

The two things I need to balance are storm chasing in the spring and summer and off road performance. I don't want to get crazy mods because that not only lowers your milage, but it makes the ride more uncomfortable and precarious. I am often in 70+ mph winds in this vehicle, I don't want it to knock over! As well, I put thousands of street miles on it during storm chasing season. If I could do anything, I would get the daystar 2.5/1.5 (could have done it earlier, scared off by someone that said it has bad long-term effects), and BFG all terrains. And maybe bud builts. But, those are expensive. Does anyone know how much the stock side plates would be to replace?

I called a local dealer about it once. One of the fronts was a little more than the other, but I remember noting that the pair would be between $400-$500. Didn't ask about the gas tank skid.

Boy, that's stupid expensive.

Look here, or Yotatech for someone who upgraded to the better skidplates.
Probably give 'em to you for nearly free + shipping to get them out of their garage.

Awesome video. I never got up the courage to take mine off road before the lift. I knew if I messed this one up, I'd be screwed and still have to pay for it. Pretty amazing what they will do with as little clearance as they have stock.

I am very jealous of the terrain and trails in the video. we don't have much of anything to compare that with here.

On many vehicles a spacer lift equivalent to the 2.5/1.5 can have some 'long-term, ill' effects. On a 4th gen 4Runner the CV angles can handle it, you remain well within the range of acceptable suspension travel. There's no extra ball-joint stress etc. I wouldn't worry about it all. The point, as a general staement, has validity but in the case of this specific lift on this specific vehicle I'd say it doesn't apply.

Just my 2cents.
