Off Road, or Off Road Premium?

Well we officially listed the Tacoma for sale.

Trying to decide on the Offroad or Offroad Premium. Or a used Trail vs Trail Premium.

Options Id like:
Heated Seats. Ive never owned a car with them. My wife's new GTI has them, and they are comfy.

Options I dont care for:
Leather. I have dogs, with toe nails.
Sunroof. I dont need one

Should I just look for a Trail/Offroad and then do seat covers and wire in heated seats? Do you regret one vs the other?

I do not regret getting the Trail Premium (what is now the Off Road Premium) I chose it because I wanted all of those extra features. The heated seats are nice, I love the (albeit faux) leather, and the sunroof open with all the windows down make as if it is a 4x4 convertible. That's my .02. In your case, it sounds like you only want 1 of the 3 so in that case, if I were you, I would choose the Off Road. A bonus by buying the Off Road means you will save a little bit of change.

Side note: My labs have not damaged the seats at all and I have put them in the rear seats without their hammock.

I like leather cus its easier to clean. I have two dogs. But one can always use seat covers and save money. BTW its plastic and not leather anyway on the premium.

Heated seats can be added by the dealer for about $600. If you go that route have them wire the switches to the truck switches and not to the side of the seat. Just a pain to deal with the passenger seat when driving alone.

Sounds like the premium is money not well spent on your end.
 
I think seats in the TRD ORP are wrapped in SofTex and not leather. If it stays on (there have been some reports in the past of backseat SofTex cover coming loose), it should hold up to dogs.

I have a SR5P with SofTex and it holds up well with our dog. I just wipe it down with a mixture of water-Woolite, or with something like Meguiars 40 now and then. Every once in awhile I do a deep clean with a soft brush on the Porter Cable and Meg 40.

Bargain hard and you can have the premium for the same price as the standard TRD Off-road or less...

Anyone know if the stereo speakers are different in the off-road vs the OR Premium?
 
Go premium. I have a hammock that goes over my backseat for my dog, she has some sharp nails and there have been no issues. Cleaning dog hair off of cloth just sounds like a complete pain.
 
Another vote for Premium. I have two giant labs (80lb and 95lb) with nails that tore up (holes, scratches, etc) my 2005 4Runner cloth seats and they haven't even damaged the SofTex yet. Plus with my dogs get so dirty its super easy to clean the mud off.

The heated seats are amazing. I love mine and its the first time I've had them as well. They get so warm that I usually have them at 50% and during cold days its very nice to have.

I wasn't huge on the sunroof either but its definitely turning out nice to have. Used it a lot in Moab when we were driving and wanted to get a quick shot of something or just driving with some fresh air and not have the other windows down.

You wont regret the Premium and you'll wish you went that route down the road.
 
I went with the Trail Premium, the big selling points for me were the KDSS and sunroof. KDSS is where it’s at imo, I’ve driven a couple others without and I can definitely tell the difference. Much more stable on the street/highway, flexes great on the trails. Pretty sure it’s only offered on the premium package

I guess I'll be the odd ball and recommend taking a hard look at the off road (not premium). I just bought a premium, and I'm not all that impressed with the features. I do like the sunroof, as it makes the cabin feel bigger (though I rarely open sunroofs).

I think the Softex looks nice but feels pretty cheap. That being said, cloth is a no-go as my dog's hair will stick to cloth like a monkey ball. I bought a canvas back cargo liner for the trunk and have been putting the dog there, as he scratched the hell out of my Audi's leather seats... and it minimizes the amount of white hair throughout the cabin. I'm not confident that the Softex will hold up to his nails.

I'm not all that impressed with the sound system, either. I do like the Nav, although sometimes I use my phone instead (can't enter nav addresses when the car is in motion, screen can be a bit busy). The speaker aren't very good, either. I looked at upgrading speakers the first week of ownership.

Maybe I'm spoiled from my Audi and Denali, but the "premium" features are a bit weak. II wasn't looking for total luxury, but some things in this "premium" vehicle seem a bit cheap. I also hate the cluster displays - the digital speedo is the only one that isn't annoying. The wheel articulation is cool, but not necessary 99.9% of the time. I didn't look at or test drive an Off Road (std), but I wish I had. I got a great deal on my ORP... but now that I'm starting to add up mods, I regret not giving the Off Road standard more consideration.


Edit: Forgot about the KDSS - that was a huge selling point for my ORP.

For starters, there is about a $3K - $4K difference between the two trims. KDSS can be had WITHOUT the premium trim. The JBL speakers are only for the Limited. You are paying for Softex, integrated turn signal indicators, sun/moonroof and heated seats. Am I missing something? Nothing wrong with the Premium trim. Just make sure you quantify your wants.

Also gets you homelink, Nav, power passenger seat, puddle lamps, auto dimming rear view mirror

Yeah, they call it connected Nav that needs your phone to connect to. The premium has built in Nav that doesn't rely on 3/4g data. I never use my Nav, but love the map displayed to see streets.
 
FWIW - I was looking at both of these as well. We decided on the Trail. I actually preferred the cloth seats over the faux leather. I find those hot and uncomfortable on long trips.

Glad we did - our loaded 2016 Trail has been fantastic.
