i bought a DeLorme for virginia (i live in chesapeake) in the hope of finding some "jeep trails", unfortunately, there are very few. i have checked for trails with local shops that specialize in installing lift kits and big tires, but these folks seem to be clueless (i guess it is all show). i have also checked with 4x4 clubs but, understandably, they want to keep their secret trails a secret - so either join the club or find your own trails.
outside of the few trails that i have managed to stumble upon in the GWNF (the best of which have since closed) there are limited options. there is always the outer banks in NC, which is a blast, especially this time of year. where else can you go off-road and explore the carcass of a whale, see dolphins, or make a fire on your own personal beach? there is also the paragon adventure park in pennsylvania (
http://www.paragonap.com/) - never been there, but i would love to try it. and, finally, there is the uwharrie national forest near troy NC (
http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/) - been there and it is not too bad, kind of boring though.
there is my two cents, would love to hear if others have had any luck - i'm always looking for a new adventure.
