I'm needing shocks currently. So I was thinking of lifting while I'm at it. Also the rear seems to ride really close to the stops, makes it rather harsh on some bumps. But I don't wanna lift it just to lift it. So I've turned to thinking bout new stock height rear springs and new shocks all round, then I can do other stuff that needs/wants doing.
Yeah. I'm just wondering if anyone here off roads their 2wd. ...
Lifting a rear wheel. Only mod that's not armor was bumping up to a 265/75 Duratrac from the stock 265/70.
What you can't see was massive amount of basketball sized rocks that made up the trail or the water crossing that came up over the hood. The buggy that went before me made it look so easy.
Oh, offroading at stock height is devilishly fun. It can drop jaws, even with swaybars attached.

Any of you guys take your rigs off road at stock height?
And how well does it perform?
Debating on buying springs now.
There's so many other things on my rig that want my money.
Amy and all comments are welcome.
Mine is currently a bone stock 2000 SR5 4wd auto. It does have the bigger tire package on it.
I know this thread is getting beaten to death...
The most important parts and upgrades for hard-core offroading are in this order:
1. Armor - Protect your 4Runner from breaking!
2. Tires - Bigger tires give you more ground clearance, NOT lift
3. Recovery/Safety - Winches/bumpers
4. Lift - This does not raise your axles, so doesn't give true ground clearance. Mainly to run larger tires, which does give clearance at the axle.
That being said, most people lift for the "coolness" factor, if one indeed does think it's cool. I do not fall into that group.
Lift gives you additional clearance everywhere except the rear differential. It's a stretch IMO to say most are just doing it for aesthetics. Besides that, you can only increase the tire size a limited amount without it.
Yes, that is true. However ground clearance is still measured from the point closest to the ground, so it's not helping a whole lot. .
Around where I live, a fair amount of people lift and still run stock sized tires. Most are waxed and polished with chrome and such and look to have never even seen a mud puddle their whole life.
No belly pan or front skid? Like the color.
