Off Roading in CT

For the few of us in CT, I wanted to share a great place to go off roading, and low and behold, it is in little ole' Ellington (Just north of Hartford, wedged between 91 and 84).

Porter Road, a town road, was never "completed" so after the first 1/2 mile, it turns into a great dirt road that quickly turns technical, with several water crossings and reasonably-sized obstacles. In addition, there are several different trails back there where you can loop around. I haven't had the courage to run the entire road yet, but I have heard it can be done by a stock vehicle.

For a bit more speed and less technical stuff, Soapstone state park has several miles of great dirt roads, which are generally well-kept but do include a few easy technical sections and water crossings. Lots of fun for novice off-roaders, or those who enjoy speed more than technical stuff.

hey CT chapter prez , any meets in the near future ? Im always in the Hartford / East Hartford / Windsor Locks areas
 
We haven't had much activity lately. PM me if you are around a certain weekend. I live in the area you frequent and there are a few beginner trails we can hit. Just let me know when you are around.
 
I would be interested in going out. Live NW of Hartford. Thanks for the tip. There also seems to be stuff out by the Barkhamsted res. and into Mass.
 
CT offroaders

I,m from CT on the coast (Waerford). I will be giong to check out that road you are talking about soon , maybe tomorrow. Not many places to go around here but I find places whenever I can. Easier to explore if you have an old truck with crappy paint as most trail around here are overgrown from not being used(lame ) Any dirt "road" sounds awesome to me !
 
Depending on when and where myself as well as one of my buddies with a 4th Gen would probably be interested in any meet ups or offroading.
 
South Windsor here! Would like to find some rookie trails in the area to play on....

Wondering if Connecticut is still issuing beach passes for 4x4..??

me and a couple other guys have found several awsome trails and we go just about every weekend so let me know and we shall fill you in on meeting places and times

hi im new to the forum, but have been looking for good places to go in CT with my truck. how do i get to soapstone state park? i cant find it on google maps at all. do you have a close address for it? thanks :)

Count me in for State of CT. NW area but happy to drive :-) Picking up my 1999 SR5 4WD 5sp within a week! Proud to be a part of this forum and any local clubs!!!
 
I wouldn't recommend going to Soapstone. I live at the base of it, with trails leading right up to my backyard. Normally people fly through the trails with no regard for pedestrians, so vehicles can be frowned upon. I will head out now and check if the smaller trails are allowed to be driven on or not, still not really recommended.

Gretings: we're in the Southbury area with a new to us 2000 SR5, 4wd 5sp, bone stock. Anybody here from this area?
