Hey, I'm wanting to lift my '88 4Runner and I was wondering what a good lift company was for our trucks? I know some company's make better kits for some trucks than others for some reason. I hope to do some pretty serious wheeling in the future so something that's tough is greatly appreciated.

Also, what axles do we have? And what tranny?

What kind of oil should I use for the tranny and front and rear diffs?

Tranny should be a R150F, but check the VIN plate in the doorjamb to be sure.

Axles are Toyota axles.
Front uses a 7.5" ring gear while rear is 8".

As for lift, you could go with a basic such as ball joint spacers in front and blocks or add-a-leaf in rear.

So the axles are just Toyota 7.5" and 8"?

I've heard bad things about blocks. I'm looking for like the whole system. I don't want to go cheap and basic and find myself sitting in the middle of no where wishing I'd spent the extra $$$ for a really good lift. And I don't want to do cheap now then upgrade later. I'd like to get the best possible from the start

hold up, wait a minute

You're not going in anymore than 18'' of water as a stocker. That's 12'' of thick mud. You'll need solid axles,4''+ lift, and 36''+ tires. I recommend Dana 30s or 60s depending on the size of tires, usage, and load. Select your terrain and your tires. A good all around tire is a MT. Not too noisy yet it'll go almost anywhere. But I said ''almost''. If you do mostly 4wheeling, you'll want a set of 40''+ swampers or boggers. I hope this helped. You'll definitely need 5.1:1 or better gears to get you out of any mess. you'll need the torque though 65mph is what I'd run down the highway. Get a UTV 4,000lb winch if you do get stuck. Skyjacker lifts.

Wow. I guess that helps quite a bit. Not sure where the water and mud thing came in? Oh well, it all helps lol. I'm not looking to swap axles yet though. Not this soon atleast. That's a lot of work .

I've been thinking 4" Skyjacker suspension lift, 3" body lift, 36" Nokian Vatiiva M/T's, 4.11 gears, lockers, snorkel, exhaust, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to an auto school this January where we'll be rebuilding the engines and tranny's in our cars. We'll see what actually happens
