off set

I am planning to buy new rims and tires to run 31"s on my '88 4runner.

I found some nice used rims: Mickey Thompson 10 x 10.5 with 3 5/8 off set.

I don't quite fully grasp the offset vs. back spacing concept yet.

I am hoping to have the tires stick out an inch or two wider than the stock tires.

Will these rims work well with the truck?

I'd be more worried about the width of those wheels you're looking at. Ten inch wide wheels are pretty wide and unless you're getting some 13"+ wide 31s I'd try to find yourself a set of 8" wide rims.

As for backspacing, the stock backspacing if I remember correctly is 4 5/8" which means that the wheels you're looking at would stick out and extra inch further than the one's you have on there, but since you're looking at 10" wide rims, you can add another 2 to that.

Thats pretty far out there buddy, great for wheeling, not so great if it's your DD and just want clean looks.

He's right...

If you use a 10" wide rim you have to use at least a 12.5" wide tire or it will bulge and you can possibly have bead retention problems...

If I had a 12.5" tire I still might consider an 8" wide rim to protect the bead more. Plus I like the way a tire looks when it's sucked in a little. Currently though I'm running 13.5's on 10" wide rims and it looks almost perfect.

There's only a few brands that even make a 31x12.50. Offhand I can't think of any though.

Thanks for the quick info fellas.

I'll pass on these rims. A bit it too wide for a daily driver.

I'll do some more research on tire specs.
