Offical 3rd gen BS thread

I'm not hating on you city_rider, and I will fight tooth and nail to make sure I'm heard and for the right to be heard but I think my polite emails probably did more to get the thread restored then the **** storm going on.

blah blah something about flies liking honey more then vinegar.

On a serious note: your not really going to leave the site are you? did your real account get parmabanned? I think we can make more progress if we actually remain a community that will work together (and maybe skirt the rules if we are forced to)

Gotcha - thanks for your contribution to the effort.

Yes, as tbst posted, City_Rider is banned and I'm not going to contribute to a community where opinions that differ from 'the all mighty leader' are deleted. I've got other sites to fill my time.

I understand. I'm sorry it has to be that way, but I understand. You sure have kept me entertained all day, the BS thread has never been so active.

Ugh... There is a time and a place, that I concede. This is a great time to swear up and down regarding the loss of liberties in the states regarding what is being censored online. Regardless of who owns the site.

I don't know man. SOPA is an entirely different beast because the enforcer is the government, rather than the owner of the property. The way I view it is like this. Suppose this site wasn't a website. Suppose it was a shop. Mr. Brown owns the shop, and invites members who agree to his conditions to come and get together from time to time to talk about their 4runners. People love it, and Mr. Brown takes notice. Other companies start to take notice as well. Some of them decide that it is in their interest to pay Mr. Brown for some space on his walls to advertise their products. Mr. Brown agrees. Lets say Mr. Brown starts to make some serious money here. Perhaps he started making enough to quit his day job and focus solely on "moderating" this group of people. One day, a customer comes in very dissatisfied with one of the products advertised in his shop and shares his negative experience with the group. Mr. Brown realizes this could be a problem. He decides to ask the member of the group to no longer share that feedback. Perhaps he does this so he can research the product more thoroughly himself before making a conclusion, or maybe it's more simple. Maybe he wants to keep the money he's getting from the vendor. The disgruntled member continues to share his bad experience, and is asked to leave the shop. Did the member have the right to share his opinion? Yes. Did the owner have the right to kick him out? Yes. If this, to you, is censorship, then where does it end? Is it censorship if you won't allow a company to advertise on your site? What if Jeep wanted to advertise here, or Tampax? Would it be censorship if the owner of the site decided that it wasn't a good business decision to advertise for feminine hygiene products here? No. At the end of the day, this is where the property issue really matters. This is not a public forum, and the owner reserves the right to run this site like he would a shop. In my opinion, they are the same thing.

However, I will agree that if the owner of this site is really censoring bad reviews for his sponsors, I think that is lame, but it is his right, and I understand where he is coming from. Let's face it, he didn't set this up so we could all have a place to share knowledge. He did it for money, at least, partially. The cool thing is that he is getting what he wants, and we are too. Capitalism does work so long as it is true capitalism.

Not sure where you are coming from - I'll go out on a limb here and say that if I didn't raise the **** storm I did Singtoe's thread would still be missing.

I don't drink, I don't own guns and I can leave work right now. I'll walk away from this site after tonight, don't worry.

no one is asking you to leave the sight. i would rather you stay, but i cant force you to do anything either way. i was simply suggesting you take a "breather". i understand that you are upset and rightfully so.

come'on now your stirring the pot again.(thats not what your here for according to some of your earlier post) I don't know why all this drama is cracking me up so much. I sincerely hope no one is taking anyone(including themselves) to seriously over all this.

:hatsoff:

I should have put a smiley or something with my last post. It was as close as I get to being funny, I guess.

A single moderator banned City_Rider - I just got to this party today!

Steezemcqueen is a reasonable mod - he will at least warn you before acting. Someone else went on a power trip as opposed to acting appropriately. Admittedly I jumped the gun with slandering wabfab but my opinion of him hasn't changed after reading what I did this am.

And what does your last post mean? I'm not good with pictionary...

Perhaps it is no longer safe to use his name. I just watched a Harry Potter movie with my wife, and they are afraid to even mention the name of the guy with the weird nose. From now on I will refer to the wabfab guy as "he who is not to be named".

My last post was intended to basically say "guilty".

Ok, time to chime in again.

1. Banning City_Rider
You're weren't banned explicitly. That is, no mod pressed a button to ban you. You were given infractions. Few infractions for cross-posting the same post on several sub-forums, and one for personal attacks. You can read about how infractions work here: https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/user_infractions_intro. The record of your infractions can be seen in your profile: Toyota 4Runner Forum - View Profile: City_Rider

2. Censorship
I have to apologize, but I'm not aware of any type of concious censorship going on on this site. Yes, we remove posts for variety of reasons, i.e. spam, flame, etc, but I'm not aware of any mods removing posts because they don't agree with one's opinion, given that the opinion was expressed in a non-flaming manner. If such occurrences do exist, contact me right away.

3. Criticizing vendors
I am not sure what gave anyone an impression that we would censor anything said against our vendor/sponsor. As much as we appreciate their sponsorship, if they're providing service that is not up to par with expectation of our membership, we shouldn't want them to advertise their service in the first place, right?

4. Singtoe's V8 Conversion thread
Not sure why he decided to delete his thread. I'll PM him to hear his side of the story.

Anything else? Time to close the thread and get on?

I have a question, How can we go about getting an "Out There" kind of sub forum so us members can go there and talk about anything under the sun without explicit content being censored. And only registered members will have acess to it. It would be a good place for people just to have normal convesations like adults without having asterisks every time they say **** or ****. Just a thought.

on behalf of everyone. Thank you for working with us to resolve these issue, Admin. I think this whole mess got blown way out of proportion, but it seems like all any one wants is a little transparency and to feel equal.

I don't know what you day job is, but I appreciate the time you spend/have spent to maintain/improve this wonderful tool/community/4Runner encyclopedia.

thats what facebook and twitter are for...

b*tch*zz, you referring to an "Off Topic" sub forum? If so, there is one here, just not a ton of traffic on it. The one on the BMW forum is busier than any other section for some reason.

I have to agree with Admin, I've read posts that have portrayed vendors in a negative light but they were done so without cursing, trashing, etc. I'm actually impressed with how lax the mods seem to be here.

Today just seemed like some heads got heated which lead to nowhere.

Gotcha - if I were City_Rider and had access to the page which states he was banned, what would be the logic in it stating that 4 of 6 infractions were made resulting in the ban? Wouldn't that individual have to make 6 of 6 infractions to warrant such action?

And where does a person view these infractions? They are not readily apparent on the profile you linked.
