First time truly going offroad
Sorry, this was the only pic I took. I know, I take worse pics than Antman
. Went scouting for a good fishing spot along the Missouri River. My wife was with me and was freaking out, hence the one crappy pic. Almost rolled over once. Struggled going up a steep incline, but I just floored it the 3rd time and made it over, my wife was scared and pissed thinking we will be stuck A few muddy parts gave the stock tires problems, luckily I kept one side of the 4R on hard ground. Next upgrade will definately be tires. A lot of branches scratching up the side of the 4R, which irked my wife everytime it scratched the 4R In the end, I had a lot of fun, and will not be bringing my wife next time

I get that from mine as well when she comes out with us. I like to get a nice 30 or so degree angle and watch her smash the imaginary brake. Now, I do not condone this, as there are nights I have almost had to sleep in the camper after messing with her :roadkill:

Yeah wives are...um...interesting on trips. Luckily mine is pregnant so she can't go off road anymore...says the research I found and presented to her.
She did make one awesome moment though. One time in Arizona we were presented with a muddy and rocky hill with a stone ledge / step at the top. It made me stop for a second, and she said "yeah I don't think so."
I locked up the rear and crawled right up in first gear. I made sure to teeter on the ledge for a second though just to get a rise out of her. Once on the top I said "This is a Toyota."
Then she called me a douche. LMAO

Yeah, the second time down Beaver Hole (laugh all you want) the wife and little guy came along. There are some spots where the 5th gen is about the biggest vehicle that can fit, with a steep embankment (pretty much a cliff) on one side. On the way down it was fine, but at the bottom, we were caught in a surprise monsoon + thunderstorm.
The wife did a double-panic: now the cliff was on her side on the way up, and the road was pretty much a creek. She was concerned about "getting stuck in the mud" along with the normal falling off a cliff out of cell range worries.
I was concerned about the narrow spot (where the cliff was indeed a risk), and the deep creek crossing at the beginning, since there was a distinct possibility that that was now a raging torrent.
Junior had no issues with any of it, and unlike me, could do what a reasonable man would: have a nap.
At the end, we made it with little excitement, and at lunch I also pretty much said "it's a Toyota, it's what they do."

Yea I missed out on the tape. Left my clear wrap at home that day. Trail wasn't that bad anyway, got a few new scratches but nothing a little polish wont take out.

What clear wrap do you use and does it work well? There's woods around here I'd like to check out but I really don't wanna pin stripe my Runner.

Yea I am sure you have. I made a mess of my install the first time, but it did work very well. Just make sure your 4runner is clean before you put it on so you don't scratch it up under the film.

How deep in the water did you guys get?

The water wasn't much deeper then what you see in the pic of my 5th gen. Some guys went through it a lot faster then I did. I tried to limit the amount and speed I spent in it. Nothing got wet inside and the air cleaner was dry. My only concern is the rear diff since I don't have a scuba mod in place yet. I should be good though as I only went through it a couple times and never once stopped in it.
I was pretty tame compared to these guys in the 4th gens.
