Official 5th Gen T4R Off-Road pics

Was in Moab from the 13th-17th. Weather sucked for most of the time. Rained two days and snowed on the day we left. I was driving back south to get back to Texas while my friends were driving back to Colorado Springs. They had it very rough getting through the mountains. We ran Top of the World on the 14th. It was unbeliveable. Words and pictures cannot describe the overlook. Snooperstyle, I totally agree with your opinion on Top of the World. Pretty difficult in some spots, especially the loop. But I made it with no damage except some minor tree pinstriping, and I have a pretty mild lift and stock size tires. Did scrape the skidplates, rocksliders and trailer hitch several times. I tried to read up on this trail a lot before we did it, but nothing I read indicated how rough and rocky and how high the ledges actually are. And the fact that it is pretty much continous for the whole trail is tough, but awesome. I loved this trail. It was hard, but not off camber and scary and the end is possibly the coolest place I have ever been. Pics to follow.

These most recent Top of the World pics were from this past weekend. I guess that storm that hit CO mid-week caused Moab to be kinda wet too. It snowed over 60" here in Vail in the last two weeks. Crazy.

Ya, I roughed up my front bumper on that part coming back down the loop where it turns sharp left up a slickrock with a bank on the right side. We ran the loop counterclockwise. It really was completely avoidable and had nothing to do with roughness of the trail. I was just stupidly trying to hurry a bit too much because there were rigs following me, and I didn't bother to get anybody to spot me on it to save time. But yea that trail is pretty rough in numerous spots. I wish we would have gotten more vids and pics of it. I do have some video that I will post soon. Going over that much tough terrain and then getting to the view at the top is insanely awesome like nothing I have ever done. You are literally navigating over tough rocks and slickrock right up to the edge of the cliff where you park. If you don't get scared while easing your rig out onto the edge of that cliff, then there is something wrong with you. That sh*t was intense. Especially considering Toyota's infamous "unintended acceleration" issues! My main recommendation for this trail is to allow MORE time than what you might expect so you can really enjoy it and take the time you need to carefully get over the tougher stuff.

Driving out to the cliff edge IS scary. You reach a point where the vehicle won't idle forward anymore and you have to give it some gas! Don't sneeze when you are doing that!

We started at about 11:30, spent at least 1-2 hours on top taking tons of pictures and eating lunch, and didn't get back to the highway until 7:30. We also did the loop counterclockwise. My wife said she saw a lifted shoreline blue TE with Baja Rack at the Hunter Creek campground on Kane Creek Road last Friday. I didn't see it because she was on a four wheeler and I was at our camp setting up the tent. I wish I would have caught up with you guys though. Great pics by the way!

Nice video! Tell me, how much air pressure were you running in the tires when you came down off the rock near the end of the video?

Thanks, your pictures were awesome as well. My friends dosen't have a Baja Rack, just stock. I guess there were more 5th gens there! You're lucky you live so close. I had to drive for a day and half to get there, but its a great drive through some nice scenery.

This was a pretty cool memorial. Was a pretty steep climb, drug my gas tank skid pretty good getting up there. When I die I hope someone does this for me.

Way too much pressure, for the wheeling you are doing, you should be at 12-16psi. I have smaller tires, and my deflators are set to 12psi. I have never pealed a bead, and I have run down to 6psi in deep snow. It is worth it just for the softer ride, let alone the increased grip.

Good point...however I have a very slow compressor and no tank to speak of. It takes like ten to fifteen min per tire to reinflate even from 25 to 40. Also, while we were in Moab, I was driving on road as well, and I am not comfortable driving on road with less than that. I used 25psi as a good middle ground. You are correct that I could have gone much lower if I needed it. Good night.

Averaging around 14mpg. The difference is quite obvious. It is long, wide, tall, just plain huge. I got stopped by a couple old guys in Jeep's telling me I should not take the trail and I would not make the switchbacks, one of the few times old men are wrong. I can maneuver it around just fine, but I really preferred the 4Runner on the trails. There were a couple times I had to use raw power to get through things while my buddy in his FJ could go right around them. Desert pinstriping front to back, folding in mirrors to get around trees, the list goes on and on. It is a great truck, I do not regret a minute of it, but it is nowhere near the same as my 4Runner.
