good info.
i do cable flys cause i have a jacked elbow so free weights are hard on it but all other chest are done with free weights. usually i am solo, no spotter means no bar weights for me unless on smith machine. dbells for all of it.

whats your take on the hammer machines? they are isolation exercises but i usually feel a good burn in the chestal region afterwards

hammer machines are good, as long as you get a good contraction you are working the muscles. one reason i don't like the cable machines is because the way tension is set up, muscles have a power range, in certain positions/range they work better/stronger, usually in the middle.

there is nothing wrong with using barbell without spotter, i only use spotter when i do max effort work or trying to break my record. most of the time i do about 80% of my max, just have to know you limits. free weights make your stabilizer muscles stronger so you are less likely to get injury. for example for squats i don't use spotter even when i try to break my max. because if i can't lift it i'll just drop the weight on to the safety bar, that's why most of my training is done in the cage, it's far safer than using a smith machine IMO.

this work?

Ouch! You might wanna get some ice on that thing! Strange but true story, I just went to have my hand checked because I thought I had a cyst. Turns out it's a hand bone that's growing upward, causing some issues.

Made me think of it when I saw your X-ray.

I was just in Philly (North Whales?) two weeks ago! Get your hand healed up and we'll make that happen.

zopperman - yup those worked. I'm gonna call bs on your story tho. Better you punched a wall than the woman's face, lmao. We've all been there. When I did it, it cost me my pinky knuckle.

Honestly, i wish i could say that so I had a fun story, she's been nothing but a saint lately. :redbrick:

They kept asking me what i punched in the ER....

they're called boxer's fracture for a reason. sorry to see it, mine still gives me pain 10 plus years later. esp at the gym on a bench press. mine broke in the same spot yours did and it's now a weak link.

ugh, fuuuuuuu. Not what I want to hear lol, I love benching..

BTW did you get a cast?

Do they think it'll heal or need a pin/plate/screw?? It looks like a fairly bad break.

They said it would heal at the ER last night, but I guess we'll see when I see the hand specialist.

Well good luck.

So, what did you hit? Don't give us this slip and fall BS, we ain't buying it!!:crutch:

Well... funny story. It happened at night - I think it was my junior year of h.s. I was fighting with my gf and hit a wall. Dumbass... Anyways - my mom got mad at me for being an idiot and refused to take me to the hospital. I went to school the next day and it still looked like crap obviously. A teacher was like WTF and called my parents. Mom showed up more pissed thinking I rolled on her for child neglect for not taking me to the dr. We go get it checked out and the dr. says "yeah way to go not bringing him in, now go see a specialist who can set it and then cast it." I had a cast up to my elbow for 6 weeks. In addition to the destroyed knuckle, there was a large calcium ring around the break which was really sensitive to pressure and painful. It's not as bad as it was but the ring is still visible if you look and like I said, it's a weak link and it still hurts. Definitely a lesson learned the hard way.

Edit: It's funny I'm telling that story and said lesson learned because as I look around my room, there is currently a hole in the drywall just to the left of the picture of my hand. I was fighting with my (different) gf and punched the wall like a moron. I have since learned a better way to throw a punch and managed not to injure my hand again but I am definitely still an idiot. I don't know what's so satisfying about hitting something but it really vents pressure. Thankfully I missed the studs. I would have lost that battle.

Don't worry bud seen that happen before just switch up the grips in bench and you'll be back in your old glory. (suicide grip with chalk) as far as hand break goes, i can't really help you with that, except to eat good and help healing faster

First day back in the gym since injury, did chest and shoulder, damnit it feels good man, im so freaking happy! it's like
my muscles are busting nuts lol
