Official: Gym/Workout Thread

I love it. I was a bouncer for a few years and that is how I got into it. I burn a ton of cals between the drilling and the sparring so it is a good form of cardio for me. Friday before last I did a 1.5hr beginner class plus a 1.5hr "regular" class, back to back. Saturday I could not get out of bed, I was so sore, lol.
I got a great deal at a great school..groupon 2 months for the $40 when it is usually $69 a month.
I say, if you can do it and find a school that is not a shark tank, meaning just wanting to train meat heads to take punches and crap, go for it. tons of fun. Nothing like being choked out by a 140lb 19 yo kid who gets your back...true story..lol

Replace 140 lb 19 yo kid with a 150 lb 21 yo kid and you have me. I've been looking into stuff in my area (philly) and a few things sound promising. Just hard to find the time with school. I kind of want to do boxing and punch shit :boxing:

Boxing is cool...but I am uncoordinated so BJJ makes more sense to me...lol

I did the mma fight gym thing for a little bit, and during our sparring sessions, I kept getting matched up with this kid who had practiced Muy Thai for 12 years....he kept kicking me in the face, through my guard, and had no idea how the hell he did it. baffles me to this day. everytime I tried to close the distance and take him down, I got his heel to my jaw.

The ground fighting was cool, but definitely learn to strike too. you will be uncoordinated for a bit, thats for sure, but if you are persistent on the heavy bag and especially the speed bag, you will be stinging like a bee in no time. BJJ kickes ass, but when you combine it with some basic strikes, you will be one mean mother

I tried bjj for something new but we always started from a guard and with a bad wheel, I just couldn't do it. It killed me to be on my knees.

I did hit the gym today though. I'm just doing whole body workouts and cardio right now:

Bench press w/ bent laterals
Leg press w/ dips
Barbell curls
Front raises w/ Arnold presses

30-45 minutes of basketball or 1.5 miles on treadmill. I do this 3 times a week.
After 3 weeks, I'll change exercise and up the cardio.
Just something different...

Back and biceps last night.
Hit 405 on the DLs..working my way back up to last summers numbers before I paritally tore my pec and had to stop all work outs for like 4 months.

how did you tore your pec

Both times I was doing Bill Starr 5x5 program.
Summer before last I tore the right benching 385, was on my 3rd rep, 2nd set at that weight.

Last summer I tore the left side benching 405, 2nd rep first set at that weight.

The right side tore from stress I am sure, the left side tore cause I am an idiot and was dehydrated from drinking the night before.

Suffice to say, when I do BB bench, 315 is my max. I mostly do DB when doing flat bench though.

Sucks to hear that. This is why I was saying, I'm done with heavy lifting- There's no glory in it for me.

In all my days of lifting, the only thing I've ever injured (lifting) has been a forearm, and I plan on keeping it that way...

Do you have any residual issues, especially with DB's?

EDIT: I did hurt my right shoulder (rotator cuff) doing weighted pull-ups. I relaxed too much on the bottom and my shoulder let me know about it. Took about 6 weeks off and about 3 months to totally heal

none really with DBs. My gym DBs only go to 125 and I can handle those pretty good. If I use BB I feel a tightness that I don't like in the scar areas. My left pec scarred pretty bad and you can see it, especially when I lean out.

This whole week sucked, i haven't had the time to go to gym since last saturday. going today forsure even if i have to skip sleep, i can't take it no mo

Hey guys I've been a member here on T4R.org for a while, but didn't know we had a thread for gym and lifting. I'm what is called an ectomorph and it is extremely hard for me to gain any weight. I have been doing quite a bit of research when I started my journey over 5 months ago. I started out at a scary 135 pounds on a 5'7" frame and and am now at 152 Lbs. I will try and post some pics so you can see my progress. I follow a macro count and only take Whey, creatine, preworkout, and casein protein.

First day back in the gym since last Saturday, the involuntary deload week is over!!! yay!!!!
Did a push day today, hopped back on craze and hemavol and took my buddie's advice on BCAA.
The feeling i have right now is unreal.

DB bench press
BB Shoulder press
DB incline press
Face pull
Decline DB chest fly
Arm raises
Bardips
Machine chest fly

15 min of incline walk

i absolutely LOVE IT when my pre-workout gives me the runs and i have to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes during my workout. totally messes my focus up!
