i saw on a video where they said on compound movements (dumbbell incline/decline, squats..) do 8-10 but with isolation movements (preacher curl, tri-down, leg extension..) you can do the 12-15 reps. their reasoning is not to get burnt out since you’re using more muscles. is this not true; would you do 5*10 on all exercises?

Gah I hate volume - unless I'm doing assistance work & even then its only sets of 8-10. For the compounds I did a warmup set of 8 & then its sets of 2 up to 90% of my max. But then again I was never concerned with hypertrophy. Still following that formula to some degree, but not working up to 90% due to my earlier injury.

Progress report:

My back hurts less than it ever has since I switched to sumo deadlifts and widened my squat stance a little bit. It's great to be able to bend over and tie my own shoes again or put on my socks & jeans without pain.

Finally starting to move back into some heavier weights. Not anywhere near where I was yet, but I am making some progress. squatted an easy 315 double, pulled an easy 405 double (painless!) deadlift, and benched a slightly difficult 335 double.

All in all, I was pleased.

That's why you do compound work first, then finish it off with some accessory work. when i do is for compound i'll do 5 sets, first 2-3 sets i'll stick with 12 reps, the last 2-3 i'll go with 10 reps. honestly im a powerlifter at heart but its important to do sime high rep work to build mass to create a better base for power.

I really look forward to being able to get my squat back up to where it was. It was a good feeling popping 465 for a double. Would like to see 500 or more someday!

i did 455 for double, but i think i might wait a while till i try 5 plates. my CNS seems like its still adjusting after not lifting for a long time.

Mine too. I also don't want to re-injure an old injury. Gonna take it easy this time. While I feel I could probably still squat something over 400, I'm going to wait a few more weeks and work with some lighter stuff.

Nah, too sensitive to opiates, even synthetic ones- I'd make a bad druggie.
5/325 is enough for me. I would rather have the vicoprofen, but can't have any blood thinners (NSAID) for 10 days...
