Official: Gym/Workout Thread

I just joined a few days ago. I've been in and out of gyms for about 7 years. I'm only 23 but my health is horrible and I'm waaay out of shape. It's not only physically stressful, but my mental state is in the toilet and my self esteem ran out of steam. However, this time it's different because this is the first time joining a gym after quitting cigarettes. It's been 3 weeks since I've stopped drinking sodas. You don't realize how much of something you consume until you stop it and I was shocked at how much soda I was chugging.

I really want to follow through with this and I feel pretty damn confident right now. I'm currently at 292.

replace the soda and the cigarettes with the gym. I've heard from a lot of my friends who have quit something that working out has been the perfect substitute

8 months since I've had a cigarette and it's one of the best damn decisions I've ever made.

However, I will smoke the herb till I'm dead and gone. Well, I do use a vaporizer so it's not as bad as anyone might think. I want to be the healthiest most fit and active stoner in the world. I want all the hot sexy ladies to eat weed laced clif bars off my rock hard abs in the back of the gym. :smokin:

i can't fault a man with a goal. a very specific goal. :D

Just stumbled across this thread. I'm definitely what's considered to be a "hard gainer". My entire life it's been a challenge for me to put on any sort of weight, fast metabolism I guess. Before I started working out I weighed 118lbs at my lowest at 5'10" (left pic), and now I'm around 145, highest I hit was 151 this past summer.

I'm at the gym 3-4 times a week hitting major muscle groups every day and separating them with different compound lifts.

Leg day usually consists of squats, lunges, calf raises, angled leg press
Chest day is bench, decline bench, bench & cable flys, incline flys
Shoulders/upper body are bar shoulder press, free weight press, pull ups, lat pulls
...and then I mix it up with a variety of ab, bicep and other exercises.

Trying to eat like a pig...Try to eat fairly healthy (no soda and try to limit processed foods).

Before working out I had bad posture, would get sick more often and was embarrassed to go out in public with my shirt off. Now I feel great, am much stronger, and have better balance and coordination. I'm currently hitting the gym harder than I have before and am going for a goal weight of 160.

Haha haven't been back here in a while, lifting is going well despite a Herniated disc and glute tear.
Current numbers
Bench: 360
Squat: 515
Deadlift: 475

question. if you are under eating, will you hold extra fat in the spare tire area? not calorie deficit but under eating on carbs. I realized the macros ive been using are for when I was 140lbs and I never adjusted to my new weight of 160lbs. im around 12% BF now and cant seem to shake this extra belly fat and wondering if its due to my under eating.
the belly is the last place to lose fat

same with me. 5'9" was a buck 20 most of my life. ive been working out a lot and eating great. my goals keep changing, I wanted to make 150...now im at 161 now and trying to get to 170. patience is key. took me 3years to get this size. just gotta keep at it.

did a weigh in and a chest workout today.

168lbs at 5'9ish

flat bench 5 sets of 12 reps, 185
incline dumbell, 3 sets of 10 reps, 70
fly's (machine and cable)

My blood doctor says as long as I don't powerlift anymore I can get back in the weight room.

No more heavy stuff for me, unfortunately, but I'm glad to be able to get back into it. Going to come up with a new workout plan and start up very soon.

Is there a certain amount of weight a person should lose every week on average ?

I've heard the healthy way is about 1lb to 1.5 lbs a week. Everyone always tells me how they use a certain diet plan or unecessary pills to lose 80 lbs in 4 minutes and act like it's the best way and then they think they are saving my life. Isn't it really bad for your heart if you drop a ton of weight in a very short time period ?

I think it depends on your overall size. but 1-2lbs/week is healthy loss. too much more than that you're losing muscle too. don't believe in gimmick pills or diet fads. just clean eating and exercise.

No more than 2 lbs per week. 1.5-2 is a good steady rate that won't starve you and send you into a binge.

figure out your macros:
IIFYM Calculator

at my peak I was 7% body fat. I ate 5 meals a day spaced out 3 hours apart carefully measured. I only ate veggies, chicken, eggs, rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, whole grain bread. I want to enjoy life a little bit so I eat more variety now and not as strict to measuring. I still mostly stick to these essentials though. do this and 4 weeks later you'll be a whole new person

also, take your vitamins. glucosamine. fish oil. multi vitamin. fiber.

t4r4life that dude...is much bigger than me. that's impressive and dedication. my 7% I was @138lbs and not muscley like him. at the time all I wanted was killer abs. im bulking now since nice abs don't look as good if you have a flat chest too. ill bulk as much as possible until near summer then trim the BF a bit for summer months
