Eh, they took some elements from the EU (First Order, attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, ect) and they seemed to try and do a "Sequel/Reboot" which... to be fair made some sense since it's been about 30 years since the last original trilogy and not a lot of younger people have seen them. But it did feel a bit "off" plot wise, some sections felt a bit more rushed than they needed to be (a lot was retold from the original movies, which felt "familiar" but also copied at some points); I'm hoping the pacing will work itself out as they move along.
Eh, Han kicking the bucket didn't surprise me. Ford was about ready to jump ship by the second original movie anyways; by that point Ford felt Han's story was done and he wasn't needed anymore (part of the reason there's the whole Leia/Han romance and Carbonite dealio). Wouldn't surprise me if Ford was like, "just kill me off I'm done with this crap."
It's hard to live up to a movie that set so many trends and cultural impact, not to mention exceed that level of impact and Majesty; particularly when most people wear sepia-toned glasses of their childhood and are more cynical these days because of so many franchises that have rebooted/made sequels to bring that world to the modern age.

OK... well Luke has been drinking funny colored milk (usually blue I think) since a new hope way back when he's farming moisture. I think they did it for shock value and he was trying to illustrate to Rey why she wants to get on the falcon and get the heck out of there. he made his point, clearly. I don't think it's worth throwing the whole movie, let alone the whole franchise, out the window because of it. though I myself could have done without the scene... I am curious what the sales numbers on that toy will be. Anything else you didn't like about it? was that really the only thing?

This is going to be a debate with subjective point of views, I don't think we're going to get to a middle point. Anyway...
That scene was stupid and unneccesary, and the TLJ director's posting that photoshoped toy box to troll the already dissapointed fans.

So because The Force Awakens made a lot of money, it’s not ‘ergo it’s good’.
Anyway, I have to admit, that fake toy looks well made to troll some fans

My post was about The Last Jedi, I didn't include the other movies but if drinking the blue milk during a dinner in ANH's comparable to drink milk directly from an alien tities in TLJ for you... then we don't have anything to discuss

The good: visuals, music, writing (mostly), Ray's parents
The not so great:
* Comic phone call in the beginning
* entire 30 min casino plotline could have been deleted
* there are so few rebels left that they could all fit in my living room for a party but somehow the rebellion is restarting? There are more ISIS loyal terrorists living in France today than all the rebels left in the Star Wars Galaxy.
* It was clear that the director and Disney choose POORLY to give near equal screen time to other characters like Fin and Asian girl despite there fact it weakened, stretched out and cluttered the plot. Deleting that whole off work adventure would have been better. Also, was PETA an investor, seriously .... Wtf.
* Lastly, again on the Casino plot so let's see Fin gets some character development and learns that capitalism can be evil and the animals races are actually captives. I can't see why he would really be that surprised considering that he was taken as a slave for the republic as a child and his whole family was wired out. So the brutality of life really wouldn't be that much of an eye opener to him as it was portrayed.

Ok so Kyle Newman is not the director of TLJ so no "the director" didn't post that. A guy named Kyle Newman posted it and @RianJohnson no different than we do here on T4R. Besides it's just a joke.
I do think that whole scene could have also been deleted. Completely unnecessary.

I haven't actually given a point of view bud, All I have done to this point is ask you questions. As a whole I liked the movie, though there are some things I could have done without, that said, your 15 second milk scene wouldn't be the first thing I'd throw out (and that is the closest to an opinion as I have come so far) For me the biggest disappointment was what I DIDN'T get, I don't want to believe that the answer to Rey's parents is so straightforward and simple and where is Snoke's backstory??? I would have much rather dedicated screen time to that than anything at all involving Fin's character. That said I am sure to watch this installment again to see if there was anything I missed the first time, and I will most certainly watch the next movie. I think changing the director lacks some fluidity, while someone may have had plans for a character, and a back story, it almost seems like this director had a very different agenda. I mean look at Phasma, you're going to cast this actress, and give her lines and a fancy shiny uniform and then... really nothing at all, what was the point of that?? there, now you have my opinion.

Well for what it's worth in the original three Star Wars movies (IV, V, VI) each had a different director.

True story, I guess the better way to describe what I feel is missing is George Lucas, he was heavily involved in the original trilogy, he ran the story line and began with the end in mind, the story stayed fluid. it seems that Rian may have had some very different ideas about the characters, and the force than JJ I am hoping that the third installment episode 9 will tie it all back together and we'll understand why some of the stuff that was confusing, or disliked was done. seems a little all over the place now. I have been the biggest fan of the second movies (empire and attack of the clones) so I really was putting a lot into this movie and it left me wanting. Still not beyond redemption.

Rogue One was the best SW movie of them all IMO. Solid story, funny moments that weren’t forced or just unnecessary silliness, no cutesy creatures, and realistic sacrifice for a greater cause.
Parts of TLJ were frankly terrible - the milk thing, Leia’s Supergirl flight, the casino segment, Snoke’s samurais and the Bruce Lee fight choreography, and no explanations for so many plot points to name a few.
It rallied toward the end but I knew my mind was wandering when my first thought on seeing Snoke’s chamber was, “Damn, who keeps those floors looking so great?”
Parts of TLJ were frankly terrible - the milk thing, Leia’s Supergirl flight, the casino segment, Snoke’s samurais and the Bruce Lee fight choreography, and no explanations for so many plot points to name a few.
It rallied toward the end but I knew my mind was wandering when my first thought on seeing Snoke’s chamber was, “Damn, who keeps those floors looking so great?”

This video is long but the first few minutes get the point across: left to his own devices, George Lucas would likely have made a version of the original film we all would have forgotten a week after we saw it, if we had seen it at all.
Yes, he imagined it all and deserves credit for that, but the revisions he’s made to the original trilogy are mostly silly and unnecessary, and Episodes I-III are watchable only for hardcore fans. They fooled me into watching Episode I but I’ve only seen bits and pieces of II & III that verified my choice not to waste my time or money.
TFA was enjoyable but my wife and I decided during TLJ’s closing credits that we’ll see IX on Blu-Ray.

I think I said "are you F#*king kidding me" out loud in the theater when I saw Leia basically "fly" in the frozen vacuum of space, especially since you know, she passed in real life, what an easy way to close the loop on that character. that was monumentally foolish in my eye. I kind of liked the Snoke throne room though, harkened back to the emperor's chambers in the original trilogy. BTW I do not think Snoke is really dead. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I finally got to see TLJ today. In some ways I think this was the most disappointing SW movie since the original trilogy. This movie actually had a lot of potential, and there were definitely some parts I liked. But overall, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Here are some of my beefs with the movie:
1. Way too political! I don't go to a Star Wars movie to be subjected to a ham-fisted leftist diatribe. In particular the whole "casino planet" subplot, which was not only political but felt completely forced and unnecessary, and just dragged the plot down.
2. The movie also had a strong vibe of PETA propaganda. Again, not what I want in a Star Wars movie
3. Ever since the original trilogy, they seem to have forgotten that Star Wars movies are supposed to be fun, "feel good" fairytale space operas. Yeah, this one had a lot of humor and that helped some, but mostly it was dark and depressing.
4. Much of the attempted humor just plain missed the mark, IMHO.
5. They tried to cram too many things into the movie. There were so many subplots and side stories and characters and twists etc. The whole thing kind of bogged down and at times was hard to follow.
