Depends. If you have access to the proper tools (armorer's wrench, roll pin/punch set, torque wrench, upper receiver block, vise, etc) then I say yes. If you don't, then you might be better off waiting. Rainier Arms and Bravo Company has uppers available now.

What upper specs were you looking at?

I don't have the wrench or block but have the rest... but if I'm building two that may help average out the costs. I'll check those two companies out, just trying to stay budget and quality minded I suppose.

I'm looking for flat top 16" middie with 1:7-1:9 twist. I don't really need a rail or front sight so that will save some $$.

Edit: 16" overall to be more specific

Edit: The blocks make like much easier and you'll really need the armorer's wrench for lowers and if you are planning to use the normal barrel nut..otherwise most free float handguards come with their own barrel nut wrench.

Thanks! Yeah finding things in stock will be the fun part. I already have the Magpul handguards and had my eye on a few different flash hiders.

The uppers I ordered were $290 each and the BCGs are $150. I don't mind paying a bit more for quality but quality, in stock, and reasonably priced seem to the the impossible trifecta... haha.

I'd like to second what darkie suggests. Building it yourself lets you configure it exactly how you want it plus its a lot of fun (like building your 4Runner ). During these current times it seems like the parts are easier to find then the complete uppers. Since a barrel wrench and upper block are nice tools to have on hand anyways, you should go ahead and get them. I have the block by DPMS from Brownells and it works really well.

That IS the fun part!!! I have my personal build going on as well and finding parts here and there make it worth it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, don't the magpul handguards use the gas block plate to secure it? If so, you'll be looking for a front sight base instead of a low pro gas block if you are set on using those handguards.

That bar is pretty neat.. just seems overpriced for what it is. It makes perfect sense though.

I'm going to price out some options and see where that lands me. I don't think I'll get anywhere close to my price point with DSArms though. Supposedly I only have another week or two before they ship. I'm already considering a different BCG.

It is expensive but its a good investment if you plan to do alot of them. The DMPS Panther claw is a great tool and will work just fine for most builds. Lately I've had to deal with some stuck barrel nuts that require penetrating oil and a torch to release them.

Yes. Most places charge $25-$40 to pin and weld your flash hider.

Got this back from my Smith! I had this dedicated .22lr upper Cerkoted and barrel cut to 4.5", shown with a SS Sparrow, OAL is 22". Loads of fun! The shop thought it'd be funny to take pics with a Night Force 5.5 x 22.

I will tell you, the Adams arms piston kit instead of going di, top notch. Bcg no straking because one piece. I got done with my mega arms / Adams arms build. Now working on my lmt build. Probably will just get the noveske moe upper IF rainier ever gets it in again.
