Dents/dings/burrs to the barrel crown will either result in friction on the exiting bullet or affect how the gases escape.
It depends upon the ding. If the ding is deep enough that it hits the grooves, then the ding will affect the flight of the bullet -- the crown is the last part of the barrel that can influence the bullet.
That depends. How are you intending to carry? For a belt holster at 4:00, a Glock 19 is pretty hard to beat. For appendix carry, I can't conceal anything bigger than my Glock 26. My Glock 26 is simply too thick for me to carry in a pocket, so I have a Kahr PM9 for pocket carry.
If you want something thinner than a Glock for easier concealment, the Kahr K9/P9 are pretty hard to beat.
Of course, the Glock and Kahr triggers take some practice to master. The factory Glock sights just suck, so expect to replace them with something better. I like 10-8 Performance sights, with a tritium front sight and plain black rear. Heinie makes good sights as well.
I've had a few SIGs, including a P239 in .40 and a P226 in 9mm. They just never quite worked for me. The reach to the DA trigger was always bit too long. The SIGs also have a high bore axis that increases muzzle flip. The balance of the P239 always felt wrong to me -- it just felt top-heavy. I sold those SIGs a while back and haven't missed them once. I know guys who love SIGs, but they've just never quite worked for me. YMMV.

oh. well yes, if a ding actual interferes with the bullet path, I can see that.
but what I don't understand is how the shape of the crown matters, or how the escaping gas plays any part in how the bullet flies.
example, a cut off barrel. it will be flat, versus a proper crown. why wont the flat barrel shoot as well? or will it?

Has anybody here had their Remington 700s affected by the trigger recall? I have to send mine out to remington to get repaired/fixed once they send me all the packaging. I would be real unhappy if this happened during hunting season but at this point its no big deal to me its been sitting for the last few months anyway. Yes that is my son, daughter is shooting the 308 with the 4" barrel in the picture and my wife shoots also, we have a great time. My son has shot almost every machine gun I can think of with the exception of a minigun.
