Official T4R "Firearms" thread

I think I'm gonna be picking up a Springfield XDM 45 4.5" bi-tone. I loved the way it shot, and everything ergonomic about it.

More importantly, I think it's the most drop dead gorgeous modern pistol I've ever seen. I've always been a fan of silver slides, happy I can get one.

Any XD owners round here?

I own 3 xdm's. 9mm, .40, .45. Picking up a bitone 5.25 pretty soon. I love the 'em!
 
Never been much a fan of the XD line. As far as full size .45 poly guns go, I do like the HK 45 and the FNH 45. Bit of a difference in price though.

I can't hit shit with the HK45 and the FN45.

I can get 2-3" groupings with a 1911 at 25 yards, but with the poly DA/SA guns I get shotgun spreads at 7 yards.

I think my brain is set up for the SA trigger with handguns at this point.

I've put down my 1911s and I'm shooting a Glock these days. But I'm having a heck of a time getting decent accuracy. I know it's not the gun.

It's your brain, and why I carry a Colt CCO--because when everything hits the fan my brain wants to ride the thumb safety and my finger finds a short trigger SAO. I've been shooting 1911s so long, I just can't/don't want to shoot anything else. I do have an M9 I'm pretty handy with, tho.

I also had the same brain fart when I bought Geissele triggers for my rifles.

I've been shooting 1911s for a long time. But as I compete more, I realize that I don't have the strength to control the recoil well enough to get fast splits with 45 ACP. My splits are about .3 sec with 45 and .2 sec with 9mm. In addition, my reloads are just so much faster with a Glock.

And I've been carrying a Glock these days (usually a 26, sometimes a 23).

Hey guys newbie here and I want to learn. I have been seriously thinking about getting a gun to protect myself while I'm out and about. It seems like just this year Colorado Springs has gotten so much worse and sometimes its kinda scary. I don't want to be a statistic on the news. Since you all really love your guns, this was the first place I thought to ask. Any advice?

Go get training before you buy anything. An NRA Basic Pistol class is a decent place to start. It will teach you the basics of handgun marksmanship, but not defensive shooting. After a Basic Pistol class, go to a rental range and start renting a bunch of different guns. My default recommendation is a Glock 19, but there are a lot of decent alternatives.

Then get yourself a good gun belt (I use a Wilderness Belt), a good kydex holster (not a SERPA, please), and a couple mag carriers. Then take a decent defensive handgun class. If Mike Seeklander comes out your way, take a class with him.

One thing that you really need to learn is when you can't shoot, which is pretty much most every situation. It is very rare indeed that you are legally justified in using deadly force. I put a box of ammo through my new HK today. I was shooting at a milk jug at about 20 yards. Pretty impressed with this little pistol and it's accuracy. Despite it's size it feels good in my hands too, and they are pretty big. Still nothing compares to my P30 for grip feel.

Oh, and HK is releasing a striker fired gun soon, the VP9. Looks promising, and the price is supposed to be in the sub $700 range.

I live 15 minutes away from the SureFire HQ, they had a sale on Saturday got laser/ lights for my Glocks ,bunch of other cool things.

X400 for $285 bucks, things like that.

Love their products.
 
just wanted to give a little update/review on my alien gear holster.

ive been wearing it quite a bit. over memorial day weekend, it was 4 days straight of 14+ hour days. no issues. even did a bit of hiking. most of the time I didn't even notice it. retention is great, there has been no movement whatsoever.

I think for the price its a great holster, well worth the $30. I noticed the other day, they now offer a OWB, im considering getting one of those as well.

Just to update this, I made some changes to my gun and load. I changed my green fiber optic front site to red. The green was just too bright for me, making it hard for me to line up the sights.

I installed a Ghost Rocket connector, which significantly reduced trigger overtravel.

I also changed my load. I'm now using Zero bullets, 147 gr JHP and N320 powder.

After making all of those changes, I find that my accuracy has gone up noticeably. I'm still not as accurate with my G34 as with my 1911s, but it is getting better.
