Gander Mountain's Going-out-of-Business Sale is hard on my pocketbook.
2 weeks ago I spent 4.5 hours in the store and walked out with 4 new toys.
Today I spent 2.5 hours in the store and walked out with 3 more new toys.
Both trips also included a separate checkout with non-firearm purchases, such as clothing, fishing & camping gear, ammunition, gun accessories, reloading stuff, and other important things I just couldn't live without.... Thankfully I don't plan on going back again. Although if you're a lefty there's still plenty of good guns left to be had!
Huber Heights OH Store. Last day for firearms sales is Monday 21Aug. Store closes forever 28Aug.

I am hoping to buy my first handgun soon,
It will start off being an everything gun until I buy more. At the very least I will be using it for concealed every day carry and car carry but unfortunately I can't make up my mind about which way to go
I'm torn between the Springfield mod 2 subcompact in either 9mm or 45 and a glock 26 or 30
I have shot all but the 30 they are all comfortable and I am fine with each but I could still improve with all of them
I like the Springfield for the fiber optic front sight and the glocks for the simplicity and availability of parts/accessories
My uncertainty comes from never having carried and having nobody close to me who has carried so I don't know what would be the most practical

Any modern handgun will have all the stopping power you need via modern ammunition.
Good vs excellent. Unlike picking one's nose, no one is born with the ability to be a good shooter. Good vs excellent will take practice no matter how good the handgun itself is.
If you are not prepared to spend and extra $50 -$100 for a quality holster don't get a handgun to carry. Especially with something like a Glock that you could snag on a shirt or what have you or place in a soft holster and compress it to the point it fires in a negligent manner. Likely injuring you.
You will get a hundred suggestions but if you do decide to get a modern gun with glock style safety AND you get a quality hard holster AND you force yourself to 'look the pistol' into the holster and always take great care inserting the gun into something ( glove box, your hands, a drawer, whatever, anything that -could- snag the trigger ) IF you cover that base. then I would highly recommend the Walther PPS M2. Small, very accurate, German engineering, mags easy to carry a spare, inexpensive - so much so that if you decide to sell it down the road it will be very easy to do so.
Carry guns get dropped. Be prepared that if a Glock style trigger gun is dropped and not in a quality holster, there is chance the trigger can be snagged.
So I would advise you to start looking at quality holsters now. If money is an issue, you can buy Glocks with holsters and mags probably cheaper than anything. You probably won't like the way a Glock feels. Many don't. It really doesn't matter, you can be taught to have it not matter.
But a PPS M2 in a Milt Sparks IWB holster would probably disappear on you no matter your body style.
It would easily fit anywhere in your car. It is easily concealed. It is accurate on the order of a full size meaning you would probably shoot it just about as accurately as you would a full size handgun out to 25yds.
Holster... get a good one.
Training... get the good stuff.
handgun... all the modern ones work very very well for their intended use.
Good luck in your choice.
What ever you get, practice.
Practice until you can:
Reload a mag, in the dark, just by feel and muscle memory.
Draw, acquire, and fire in a smooth motion, with acceptable accuracy.*
(Think index card at 7-10 paces, aim small, miss small)
Trust your chosen pistol/ammo combo w regards to reliability.*
(Think at least a few hundred rounds, new pistol, diff ammo, you have to know they work)
If you have to, go to a range, try multiple pistols for fit, ease of concealment, etc. most shooters will be happy to let someone try a new pistol, ask nicely, pay them for some ammo.
Remember the 6 Ps. Proper practice prevents pizz-poor performance.
Practice.

Pistols are hard to shoot well, not withstanding the garbage you see on t.v., movies, etc.
Micro RDS, fibre-optic front sights are, to me, a fetish. Race gun, sure, plinker, sure. Go with Novak night sights, or a gold bead for a front.
tv-ab nails it with regards to a holster being a huge part of a quality carry gun. This isn't buying a new light bar or set of wheels, get it wrong, shoot your nutz off...

Anybody have experience with the Ferfrans CRD? I'm building an 11.5 AR pistol and this device looked pretty cool. I'm read of some issues with locking after some prolonged usage?

I hate CA for the recent rifle law update.. But got a sharkfin grip on my AR. Those who are featureless, what setup are you running? Been thinking about the FRS-15, but it kinda looks meh..
Also been thinking about non-featureless, but i'm not really a fan of the idea of having to open up the gun in the event of a jam or something...

That is some sweetness right there! How do you like your Creedmoor? I don't have one of those just yet but multiples of the others you have there. Only mine arm Armalites AR10T's (Originals and customized just like yours) and S&W SnP 15's in 556 and well lets say that enough to mention for now. Mine are not just sitting locked away in a safe either. 23 years in LE and one knows how and what to use.
