Official T4R "Firearms" thread

CAR15 or M4 with 16" is fine. I know there were shorter barrels back in the day, I don't want to deal with paperwork on this build. Think I found one with the A2 receiver for under $400. still kind of a long term idea.

I picked up this baby yesterday at the local gun show...I have a fetish for bullpups. I already own an Aug and a Tavor and considering the price difference...this one was a no brainer.

Awesome! Now this is a thread I can live by...

Hahaha!!!

Okay, what do we have - especially considering I only got into firearms in May of last year (2017).

  • Glock 22 Gen 3 - my first pistol
  • Glock 19 Gen 3 - my off-body carry outside Komiefornia. Also a home defense gun accessible from the master bedroom; and a competition pistol for IDPA CCP.
  • Glock 34 Gen 3 - my competition pistol for IDPA SSP and USPSA Production.
  • Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm - home defense gun accessible from my study room.
  • SA 1911 MCO - a safe queen, basically.
  • M&P Shield 9 - my CCW outside Komiefornia (because I can't get the Glock 43 in this state).
  • Spike's Tactical Crusader AR15 - equipped with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24.
  • Beretta 1301 Comp - a recent purchase since I'm looking at trying out 3-Gun.

Looking to purchase a Tikka TAC A1 by mid next-year as I'm interested in precision shooting.

Cheers!

Why can't you get a G43 in Cali?

California's "Unsafe Handgun Ban," - unless the Komie DOJ deems a pistol "safe" and listed in the "Roster," it's a NO GO. Unless of course, through a private transfer (usually with higher prices due to rarity of being "off roster").

For example, Glock still manufactures Gen 3 pistols just for the California market.

Decision: Peña v. Lindley (Challenge to Handgun Roster/Microstamping) - California Rifle & Pistol Association

Skip the tikka and buy the parent company sako trg. The tikka's are nice but they're no sako's and it's probably what you're going to upgrade to later on. I've spent plenty of time behind both. Buy once, cry once.

Welcome! Nice collection. Looks like you're on a similar path as me. 3 Gun > USPSA > PRS. I've seen a few of the Tikka TAC A1's at the last match. great shooting guns out of the box. Good luck on your journey!

I'm not much of a Glock fan but they do provide good bang for your buck and I agree with 2fly...skip the Tikka. I purchased an RPR after firing both and later upgraded to the Sako...save yourself the headache and cost. It's not like all the people that say 'Spikes Tactical' and it's really just an Aero part that Spike's marked up, there is a difference.

I get the "buy once, cry once" mentality. I follow it for the most part but for someone who is new to precision rifle, the tikka Tac A1 and the RPR's are good rifles to grow your interest in the discipline and sport. I started off with a Rem700 in 308 then to a RPR in 6.5 now onto my full custom build.

In my opinion, if anyone is willing to spend +$3k for a rifle, I'd recommend a custom build.

Anyway, back to the pictures...getting ready for a Thanksgiving shoot. Introducing my liberal friends and family to the world of firearms.

Depending on your "needs," budget and use, there are a lot of really nice rifles out there that are, or can be accurized, to become tack drivers. Nosler and Ruger both make a fine, purpose-built hunting rifle, while the gold standard for sniper packages has been pretty much standardized on the 700 action.

Once you choose to build, or have a rifle built for you, the sky is the limit. In reality, you should choose a rifle based on the intended use profile, which includes caliber and projectile/velocity - all of which dictates barrel properties. Scope and stock and whatnot are secondary in my experience. All that being said, a commercial production rifle is something you will adapt to vs a rifle that is built to your needs/use.

Personally I'm quite fond of my sporterized Eddystone that I built from scratch and updated with a Shaw barrel, Timney trigger and glass bedded into a monte carlo type stock after having the receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounts. This rifle cost me about $800 all in, and with the handloads I developed for it it is cold bore accurate to sub moa if I can hold it steady or improvise a good rest in the field. Lol. With a warm barrel and a bipod you can shoot a bughole at 200 no problem, 600 on a windless day.

That being said, we all have firearms we have purchased before we knew what we ultimately learn along the way. Do your research. The more you learn and discover along the way the fewer safes you'll need. Lol

I have both an RDB and RFB and another RDB on the way...not because I need 2 but because I ordered one about a year ago and found one recently at a local gun show. They're both a solid value and fun to shoot but if I didn't already own an RFB I'd hold up since the RDB will be produced in .308 in the (hopefully) not too distant future and the RDB is the better of the two. Kel-Tec is currently shipping a large number of RDBs (per Kel-Tec)...probably not enough to satisfy demand but there should be some hitting vendors. GT Distributors sells them for under $900 and you can place an order with no money or obligation.
