IMHO you can't beat LightForce or PIA brands. It all depends on what size you plan on running for Model numbers and also budget as the HID versions will be more then the halogen versions. That being said I have a set of Hella 500's I am going to be mounting because that is my budget right now.

That was the other question i should have asked.......do most people go halogen or go hid? or do some buy the regular halogen lights and add a hid kit later? I wouldn't say price doesn't matter, but i also can wait and save some cash to get the right set from the start.

also, does anyone know if there are specific lights that bolt up to the rola rack?

my lights are halogen sure hid would be sick but mine are wired to come on with the high beams and flicking hid on and off id bad

I just bought a rola rack which gets here tomorrow and I'll be putting 4 Hella's on it. I'm using the KC lamp mounts to mount them on my rack. The hellas wont be getting here until a couple more days but once I get them on there I'll snap a pic for you

here's what mine looks like with the Piaa 520's..

I would like to get a set of lightforce in the near future or whenever the Piaa's decides to quit on me.. The Piaa has served me for the past 10 years and the only problems it had was one burnt bulb.

I love my IPF 968's

I just got a pair of those a few weeks ago and I think they're pretty sweet too and the price was good. I like the wiring kit that came with them also - I didn't have to cut or splice a single wire. I have mine hooked up to my high beams too like Elton.

I just ordered a pair of the PIAA 520 ATPs yesterday. Heard great things about them and really liked the pairs that my friends had on their trucks.

If i was to do it over again i wish i woud have ordered these HID's first ( still thinking about getting them) but this way you have some cool HID light without having to mess with your headlights Anyway for me back then, looks was more important so i ordered the PIAA 520's they are the same price for 2 HID's Dont get me wrong the PIAA's put out some good light but i hardly need them becuase they are amber color and there really for those rainy or snowy days. on top of that i hardly ever drive at night. haha

I'm liking the IPF 968's so far based on looks and price. Don't get me wrong the LightForce 170's are awesome but they're over $200 without the wiring harness. I would like to run 2 pairs (4 lights on the rola rack) and I can't see paying over $500 to do so. I've still got the valve cover gaskets to do and add an alarm yet. :bash:

I highly recommend the 968s for the front bumper, but not for a roof rack. They are just a little brighter than my high beams so if you use them in addition to your highs as driving lights they're great and they really light up the road nicely. I turned mine a little wall-eyed so I get a nice continuous high beam, ~twice as wide as my normal highs to light up the sides of the trail (so I make sure not to miss that one important turn!). And I can really piss off the guy who flashes me going the other way too! kidding :)

But.. I say not to get them for the roof rack because generally you would want some spotlights with a longer range up there to get the next "section" past your high beams and the 968s just don't have that range. My plan was 968s for driving/peripheral and probably some KC HID 5" Long range spots for the roof rack. But I still need a rack!

I don't have an ARB front bumper, its still stock so mounting to the front bumper would have to be like Pure98 did his and just bolt the lights to the bumper.
