Offroad light recommendations?

My Gobi Stealth Rack is scheduled to ship this week and I'm going to need some offroad lights to go with it. I have had very good experiences with Hella's and PIAA's in the past, but never in a roof mounted application...

What are some opinions? PIAA's may prove to be too expensive for the wifey. I am thinking of going with a Hella FF75 setup for the front lights (4 across). http://www.myhellalights.com/files/5612/7638/2893/008284011-pri.png They are pretty reasonable at about $210 for 2 sets shipped. Anyone have experience with these? As far as the rear lights go, I may try the LED Dually's that Kingpin has on his truck. They may prove invaluable when launching the boat on a dark ramp. Never had any experience with either of the two. However, i did just order 4 Hellas for my brush guard. On my XTerra I had 4 KC Daylighters mounded on the roof, i think that they were around $120 a set. The shock absorbers on those lights worked awesome. Just throwing this out there, hope it helps.
 
Thanks for the response ! I need a low profile light so it fits below the light guard and subsequently allows me to fit into my garage. I think the KC's are too tall to fit the bill ...
 
Antman - look at my build thread. I had 4 hella 450s up top, which matched up right to the top of the light bar.

I took all the lights down and relocated them to my bumper (this is not in my build thread). The hood glare was too much on the eyes for a long period of time.
 
I've got a whole set of hella 450s for sale, same setup as Icenomad. I just got my Gobi Stealth on 2 days ago, I love it. Going a different route with my lights. PM me if interested.

My roommate has the FF75s on his 3rd gen w/yakima, IMO they look tiny.

Yeah, I was wondering about hood glare- I had A-Pillar mounts on my Jeep, which placed the lights slightly over the hood, and the glare was pretty bad. I thought the roof may be a problem...
I have been wiping drool off my keyboard from looking at your truck, Icenomad, ever since I ordered my rack!!

I dunno... still not sure what to do. I may order those FF's and if they look too small, try for the 450's? Are the 450's that you used fogs, or driving lenses? The beam pattern will definitely affect the glare I would think??? Thanks guys!
 
The hellas that I have are driving lights. Fog lights produce a wider beam that do not go as far, so I would think the glare would actually be worse. You don't really want to put fog lights up top as they are meant to be mounted low and spread out when they hit the ground. Just my 2cents
 
I agree 100% with that- fogs would be a bad choice. I guess anything mounted up there will produce glare to some degree.
On my boat, I mounted a driving light above the center console. The glare was horrible, so I painted the lower 3rd of the lense with some high temp paint ( which has held up remarkably well). It reduced the glare by about half- but it's still a pain. Thanks for the help!
