Oil after 5k

I'm using Amsoil TSO 0w-30. The full flow filter needs to be changed once a year or 12.5K miles, the by-pass filter needs to be changed every 60K miles (both filters are the nano-fiber Amsoil Ea filters, the FF costs $13 and the by-pass costs $25). you have to add new oil to the filters, then install. I'll see if I can find my last UOA.

Ah ha! :bonk: You're an "Amsoil guy". LOL- Interesting. Being relatively new around here, I didn't realize that. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. Some of the Amsoil people I've talked to have an "Amsoil is the only lube to use..." attitude, which I personally do not agree with. I do however like the fact that they stipulate that any oil is only as good as the filtering system- which I believe to be correct.

I ran my 99' Buick Regal 6-8K miles between oil changes. My 04 Lesabre commonly runs 10-12K miles between oil changes. I use the onboard system set at "severe" parameters...and keep an eye on it. It's got 108K on it and runs like a top! (Based on my research and experience with them, GM seems to be one of the few, if not the only Auto OEM that got the oil monitor system correct.) I will do the same with my 4R. UOA is the only way to know for sure, but I'll bet dinner that the lubricant/filter I use is OK to the mileage intervals I use for changeout. Dang...that sounded kind of ignorant...sorry!

Also, I only use a Group IV (5W30 synthetic) motor oil and Pure One filters. When in doubt if I can't manage an oil change (it gets cold around here once in awhile) I change the filter and refill.

From everything I've read and experienced, Amsoil is the best oil on the market for extended changes. Also in almost every testing/comparisons I've ever seen, Amsoil has been rated the best. If there is a better oil, show me the BEEF!

What group IV oil do you use?

I ain't telling :dancin: and I ain't gonna join the whole "my oil's better than your oil" fight :chair: (sorry about the chair, it seemed appropriate for a quick minute...LOL). Oil comparisons and tests are extremely subjective. Here's why: If I produce an oil that does poorly on one test or another, I simply exclude it from my literature and spec sheet. Lubricant companies ...especially those companies whose products are relegated to SAE approvals, only report good or excellent test results to their customers. All others are 'stricken' from the record. Thats the game, and they're all playing (even Amsoil). By the way, SAE approvals cost $50-75K per grade. That cost applies before they sell 1 quart of the product!

As a gentleman I will tell you that I'm glad you are happy with the Amsoil product and get good performance with it. I have nothing negative to say about their products! MAybe someday when I get motivated, I'll rig up one of those fancy filtration systems! :)
