Oil and part under the hood question.....

I just bought Mobil 1 0-20w synthetic for my next oil change. Will a Wik cartridge filter be ok or do you have another recommendation? The oil claims 15k miles but I would never let it go that far out, how many miles on a change would you recommend?

If you are standing in front of the 4 runner with the hood up. There appears to be a small motor on the left tied into the coolant system. What is the name of this?

That's the air pump isn't it?

M1 is great. Wix filters are great. The motor you see is probably the air pump for the emissions system.

Thats it, should I hear it when the motor is cut off?

It makes an annoying ''gasping'' sound when the engine stops! Normal.

yep and even more so when you put on a filter on the housing rather than the foam filter toyota puts in there.

you can go 10K miles on oil changes but also do the oil changes 12 months or less in time.

toyota oil filters look very good to me . I have cut open the can types so on my other vehicles I use pure one purloator oil filters.

Great, I had been going 10k in the highlander. I would love to go with toyota filters but the dealership is about 60 mi away.

The little pump makes a noise when the motor is cut off and was scared it was getting ready to go out!
