AMSOIL all around if you can afford it. I think they recommend 75w-110 for the rear.

I have researched this to no end.....OIL. FWIW i have a 93 Civic with 280,000 miles on it that burns 1 qt every 1000 miles. I have not changed oil in it for 55,000 miles. I DO change the filter every 6-10,000 though. List of oils I have used for top offs. USED 20w50 motorcycle oil, USED 5w20 from wifes Odyssey, 75 90 GEAR OIL,Non-detergent SAE 30 weight, ADvance Auto oil, Synthetic , Rotella 15w 40 Deisel,PEAK, QS, Pennzoil, Castrol, Havoline,Valvoline, Generic stuff Menards sells, STP, 10w30, 5w30,etc etc. Anything and everything. IT looks BRAND NEW inside the head. No exaggeration. BRAND NEW!!!RUNS like a champ on any oil. Not even a tad of varnish,crud, goop, looks like brand new metal straight from the casting.You'll be fine with whatever meets specs.Or in my case youd be fine with whatever is oily....key is frequent intervals of lubrication. Dont waste your money on AMSOIL or Royal Purple or whatever the heck else marketing ploys for engine/trans protection is out there.

I have used castrol GTX forever in my cars. i change every 3k, sometimes up to 5k if i forget or get lazy.
Im switching over to chevron since costco is having a sale on that. OEM filters all the way too.

Well he is right that OP (and everyone else) will be fine with whatever meets Toyota SPECs. Toyota knows better than anyone what should be used in the their vehicles and in the United States fluids are standardized into set categories / types so you don't have to go with a specific brand, just the right type. I generally try to go OEM.

I'm using oem filters, and I've been running Mobil 1, but I just switched to Mobil 1 Extended Performance. It says it's good for 15,000 miles. I'm going to try and run it for a year, and then change it. I'll probably change the filter in 6 months and top it off.
Haven't done engine oil yet, but bought Amsoil for front/rear diffs, t-case, and tranny (full swap). Here's what I bought:
-Trans Fluid: ATFTP-CA Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid (5 gal)
-Front Diff/T-Case: SVGQT-EA SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 Synthetic EP Lubricant (3 qt)
-Rear Diff: AGLQT-EA SAE 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube (3 qt)

Have some Mobil 1 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil left over from previous vehicle. I'll be using that once it's ready to change oil.

I have used Amsoil for the last 15-20 years. It's an outstanding oil...and if you use it correctly, it doesn't cost any more than a cheap Wal-Mart oil change. I do the extended oil changes...cost me less than $45. I'm good for 6 months or 10,000 miles...that only $90 a year on oil...Toyota dealership charges me $10.00 for labor/lube...grand total of $110 a year.
If you go 3 months or 3,000 miles...you need a minimum of 4 oil changes a year. Paying some untrained want to be grease monkey at Wal-Mart (hope no one works at Wal-Mart...the guys at ours are luck to find the hood release) $25.00 to put who knows what kind of cheap crap oil out an unmarked 55 gallon drum. No thank you...I'll spend the extra $10.00
I have experimented with extended use. Being in the Army...I learned that's all they do. Every 6 months we pulled samples...if they passed...the oil stayed...only if it failed, did we change the oil. I figured if its good for 1/2 million dollar engine that gets driven hard...it should be ok for my DD. Therefore, I sent my oil to a lab to be tested to see long I could go on my Amsoil...with changing just my filter every 10,000 miles...At 30,000, although the silicon levels were getting close to the max...my oil was still "good" according to the lab work and could have even further, but I stopped at that point. (Note: after 10,000 miles...I sent a sample in every 5,000 miles). And I'm sure other oils can do this also...Mobil 1, Royal Purple, etc...so, I really think if you use a good name band oil...it's a matter of choice/opinion ...whatever gives you that warm fuzzy feeling
Now, I don't go 30,000 miles every oil change.. I change my oil very 6 months no matter what the mileage is...now days I'm lucky to drive 6-700 miles a month. But it's a good feeling knowing if a had to...I could go a lot longer. And I have the best oil (in my opinion) protecting my engine.

If it were me and I had the Amsoil option, I would run Amsoil in all of the driveline components and whatever you prefer in the engine. There are some real, heavy duty, advantages to synthetics in gear oils. Amsoil, Redline, etc. make quality products. When speaking about modern 'synthetics' and true synthetic engine oils, it is more about the additive pack than the base stock. Pretty much any store bought API licensed oil will work well.

I use the following fluids in my T4R and have had good experiences with all of them:
Oil: 5W-30 Mobile 1 High Mileage in the winter and 10W-40 in the summer
Oil filter: Purolator Pure One or OEM Toyota
Transfer case: Royal Purple 75W-90
Rear differential: Royal Purple 85W-140
Front differential: Royal Purple 75W-90

I use Valvoline synpower because that's what my buddy used to stock in his shop (free oil FTW). Walmart is frequently sold out, so I use Mobile1 high mileage when I can't get the Valvoline. I did my last change with Mobile1 high mileage and I was amazed how clean the oil came out after 5k miles... looked almost the same color as the fresh oil.
As for filters, I either use Toyota or Napa Gold if I need to do it on a Sunday.

Just curious, but why 10W-40 in summer when the manual says to use 10W-30? I doubt it has any affects since the 5VZ is a bear that could probably run on molasses but just curious. lol.
I personally use Pennzoil Ultra and the YZZD1 oil filter. I get the motor oil at a really good price and get the filters from the dealer though I'll be ordering a case of them from one of the online parts dealers. Look at the OEM filter cut open against all the other filters and you'll see that it's the best value.

I use Royal Purple for everything except I used BG's diff fluids for my front and rear diff's just cause it was free for me at the shop I was at at the time. My transfer case was switched to Royal purple and will do the same once it's time to change the diffs again. And yes it's really up to personal preferance and AMSOIL is really good stuff. .
