oil burn fumes in heater

Hi fellow runners,

This is my 3rd day after getting my 3rd gen 98. Two problems immediately comes to surface.

1. Smell oil burning smoke when I turn the heater on. looks like oil leaks somewhere drops on some parts of exhaust and the resulting smoke comes in through heater. Only a guess at this point from my side. So wanted to check with more experienced runners here and get opinions on what could this be? And how bad the fix will be in terms of money?

2. The rear left spring seems to have lost its strength. Only on a mild off roading today with 5 people in the car on the beach, it seems to have hit two ends together on many occasions. What are the best replacement options for this fix?

3. The tire size. It has 265/70/16 on it now. The truck is all stock, can I get by with 285/75/16 without any modifications?

lets see here.

1. I would guess to look at the valve covers and make sure they are not leaking and just getting residual fumes inducted into the climate control system.

2. There are a ton of options for rear springs. In your case I would do just two new rear coils, which are easy to do yourself. You can go OEM or aftermarket its up to you.

3. I will say no, because of rubbing implications of a bigger tire. You can achieve this with a body lift/ suspension lift/ spacer lift. There are a couple threads involving this issue you can look them up and see what fits your needs.
