Oil Change

I use the Haynes manual instructions, as I had never done it myself until about 18 months ago. I rotate my tires at the same time.

It's a bit of a pain, but I had it done at Canadian Tire once, and they ****ed it up--the filter wasn't OEM or it wasn't tight enough, so it started dripping. Doing it myself I know it's exact, plus I get up-close-and-personal with my truck.

Just oil and tire rotation saved me money on a lot of things that I was able to pick up on before they did more damage--notably the rear axle seals.

My local dealers (there are 3 within 10 miles) usually have coupons for 39.99 and then charge and extra 5 for the larger than 5 quarts capacity. But they also lube the zerk fittings on the drive shafts, you need to insist and actually watch them do it. I bring the TSB on drive shaft lubrication with me because I have had them spray WD40 on the U joints and tell me that was the Toyota procedure of lubing them.
Over all for 45 dollars to get the oil change and the drive shaft lubricated I think its a steal!

How do you guys keep the oil from running out of the filter when you unscrew it? Everytime I take mine off all the oil left in the filter runs down the block and all over everything below it.

There can be residual, I am assuming you let all the oil drain, then do the filter last...even then I usually remove the filter with a rag in hand, but have never had too much drip that the rag did not absorb...

If you want to know whats goin in, Id to it yourself. Go Full synthetic if you can afford it (AMSOIL). and to save alot of pain, take off your skidplates first or else it may drain everywhere and make a huge mess.

Or just loosen the filter while you are draining with the crankcase cap taken off as well. And then stuff your skids with old rags/paper towels and you'll be fine.
