The law is that the dealer has to PROVE that the oil caused the failure, which will NOT happen. A lab UOA will verify the oil was good.

Has anyone ever heard of a oil related engine failure on the Toyota 4.0 or 4.7 engines?

True. But who determines whether the oil is "good"? How much fuel dilution is too much? How far out of grade can the oil either shear or thicken? What is a "good" insoluble count?

Some 4.0Ls have had issues with fuel dilution and high insolubles. Many 30 weight oils will shear down to a twenty weight, especially after being flogged by a timing chain as large as the one that is in the V6. On the other hand, some 30 weights will thicken well out of grade if used over an extended drain interval.

I would not risk losing my warranty by running a 10K mile/one year OCI during the warranty period. If "they" say the oil was in the crankcase for 10,000 miles and it caused the failure and they are not paying, what do you do? Write Toyota corporate? And what if they say no too? Guess what, you will need to hire a lawyer.
