Anyone else have an oil filler cap that's very hard to open? I don't close it supper tight after refilling the oil however it's always very difficult to open. I'm afraid of cracking the plastic filler neck when opening the cap.

mine is always like that, i just put a rag on it and use some channel locks to twist it open, the rag keeps the teeth from digging into the cap.

Damn yall, I've never had that problem on my FJ nor my 4runner, but then again I do have the bling bling TRD oil cap

Well, it has got to come off somehow. Put some muscle into it. I'm guessing your stealer did the last oil change.
Does anyone know the torque spec for the oil filler cap?
If I like the customer, hand tight and a hair snug past. If I hate the customer? Well... lets just say you need a big set of pliers. :cheers:
Sometimes guys snug them a bit too tight and with enough heat cycling the plastic caps get wedged in good. I like to get a big crescent wrench and get it just the width of the grip; usually I don't have to apply much force after that so it doesn't even mar the plastic.

That has never worked over here for some reason across 6 oil changes now. Always end up using the rag/channel-lock method, and always apply a clean layer of oil when re-installing the cap
I guess I need to leave it looser than I think it should be tightened? I'd rather whip out the channel locks than risk an incomplete seal. Obviously never had that issue on the 99 Tacoma V6...Go figure...

Taking your advice I asked them both to try and open it but no luck. You must like woman on the rugged and hairy side.:lol::dance:
All kidding aside, I may just get a TRD cap to avoid this. Someone here posted that they don't have this problem with the TRD cap.

I have one of those TRD caps and it is still hard to remove.
Doesn't bother me, at least I know its not coming off..... just use the rag & channel lock method of removal.
