Oil filter canister . . .

Anyone had their original oil filter canister fail/crack/leak?

I replaced mine today with a metal one, Toyota P/N 15620-31060.

Dealer stocks several plastic ones (original for the 4Runner) and says they have seen them crack.

Mine was just fine, just wanted to be proactive in avoiding an oil leak. Had to exchange the center perforated tube which was easy.

The metal one doesn't leak at all and uses the exact same filter/gaskets.

My guess it's because they've been over torqued and probably broken being taken off. I had a couple in the past I had to actually "tap" with the impact to get loose.

No problems with mine but I replaced mine with the Aluminum one as well. It was less than $30 so I didn't have to think too hard about it.

The dealer told me today that if the aluminum part fails, it's my responsibility. Kinda scared me a little, but then realized that how would an aluminum part like that fail?
