Oil filter differences

Does anyone know the difference between the Toyota 9015-YZZD1 and 9015-YZZG2 filters?

The one I pulled off the motor is the G2 and I purchased that from an Autozone. The D1 I got off amazon. Everything I've seen says the D1 fits the 5VZFE.

The G2 is slightly shorter than the D1 and has oblong holes as opposed to the D1s round holes. Are they interchangeable?

Vehicle is a 96 limited 3.4 auto

You'll be good with yzzd1.The yzzd1 is the orignal factory filter. Theré are other filters that fit the 5vzfe like yzzd3 which is a little taller but was for 2nd Gen tacomas or Lexus Or yzzg1 or g2.

+1 on the YZZD3 filters, I’ve used them exclusively for almost 40K miles with excellent results!

Recently, in the past year or so, Toyota USA switched back to the made in USA G2 filter instead of the D1 Thailand-made filter. The G2 USA ones were standard in the late 1990's/early 2000's, when I got my first Toyota trucks. They're made by one of the big American manufacturers, like Wix or Champion.
