NAPA Gold 1040 Cut open - Bob Is The Oil Guy
Some info on NAPA gold filters, some people claiming they're made by WIX.
OEM Toyota Filter Info
Some info on the OEM filters I use on my truck... they look almost the same inside as NAPA gold... so I stand behind my previous comment 100% just based on the fact that for ME it is much more simple and trusting knowing I get the right filter every time... and for around $4. Pick whichever you want though, I'll say it again, it's your truck.
And no, my truck is not factory, because certain things, not all, are designed with DOT and EPA regulations in mind, such as intakes and suspension etc... so things are purposely restricted, but when you look at aftermarket filters they are either clones or generic copies, some like fram going super cheap on the insides... so again I have no reason to use any other filter besides OEM. I had a 95 240SX that I swapped a 98 Silvia SR20DET into and I still chose to run OEM filters. My boost was stock 7lbs on stock turbo, with everything factory except exhaust, intake, and intercooler. Maybe if it would have had upgrades, running higher boost, and increases in oil pressure due to support such mods and increases in performance, then maybe a filter upgrade would have been considered. I digress, but it's the only way I can explain it. My engine on my 4runner has no major modifications, and even if it was supercharged or turboed I couldn't see myself using a different oil filter unless it was absolutely necessary. I posted my sources, so if you really think I'm just full of it or whatever, go buy your favorite filter and a Toyota OEM one, cut them open and compare. I'm just saying these things because I've already done it, not trying offend people. Maybe if somebody does it and takes some pictures to show us all your opinion and findings... otherwise without some evidence behind opinions it just seems like hearsay for the most part.
