I have a 2010 Tacoma and I use OEM oil filter 90915-YZZD3 on it.

would the OEM oil filter 90915-YZZD3 also work for my 98 4Runner ltd. V6, 3.4L?

I was thinking if it works, I could just buy a case of the oil filters

:thanks:

Nope they won't work for fitting the 98 4runner.
This is what 90915-yzzd3 fits.

Toyota: 4Runner 2003 - 2009
Toyota: FJ Cruiser 2007 - 2009
Toyota: LandCruiser 2001 - 2007
Toyota: LandCruiser (pre 01) 1960 - 2000
Toyota: Sequoia 2001 - 2007
Toyota: Tacoma 2005 - 2010
Toyota: Tundra 2000 - 2008

Looks like you need 90915-YZZD1

Yes, it does fit. I know because along with our 3rd gen 4r we also have a 2nd gen 4.0 Tacoma. It's a little tighter fit but no problems. The second time I changed the oil on the 4r I decided to get a different filter, the one that is a better fit. Plus the 4r takes a lot of oil at 6 quarts. The larger filter made it more than that.

The smaller filter (90915-YZZD1) is a better fit so I got a case of them. They are cheaper too. Because the smaller filter is easy to handle in the tight space I have the change sequence down to a science. Not one drop spilled last time.

I bought a whole box of 90915-20004 filters from cruiserdan for my 94 Land Cruiser. Sold the cruiser, kept the filters, and have been using them on my 3rd gen. These have since been discontinued, replaced by 90915-YZZD1.

So basically whatever fits a Land Cruiser of that era will also fit a 3.4L 3rd gen.

Here's a thread from 4th gen: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/30856-oem-oil-filter-difference-factory-vs-dealer.html

90915-20004 is a Japan made filter. 90915-YZZD1 is a smaller V6 filter. 90915-YZZD3 is the equivalent in size to the 90915-20004, which is the V8 filter. D1 and D3 are same, except the D3 is a bit taller than the D1.

Plus you can by a case of 10 of the 90915-YZZD3 for $40 free shipping off ebay...

So the 90915-YZZD3 filter will fit but it will be tight, is it safe to use?

I just don't want to buy 2 whole case of different filters, if I really don't have too.

Sorry to say as all the others but you defiantly can not use that filter on your 98.

Why and what makes you say that?
How is it different from a 2001?
I suppose this is this not one of those filters, right before I put it on my vehicle?

That filter will go on my 1990 Celica, the 1990 Pickup and the 2001 4Runner.

Put some oil on the outside of the filter as well as the O-ring. Might make it easier to squeeze into an already awkward spot. :-)

I have a case of D1 for the 4runner and a case of D3 for the Taco. It's no big deal. Those cases only last 50k miles. I'm on my second case for the Taco.

Get one of those fitted caps that go over the end of the filter with the 3/8" socket hole in the end. Fits snug, turns off easy...

Just make sure you don't use it to tighten the filter, d'oh!
