Of those two I like OEM. There are many, many good ones out there, many articles on here about them and online lists of many folks ideas of which is best and so on. Purolator Pure One or Boss are my favorites, mostly cuz I like 7500 OCIs. Luck and enjoy the Runner. :cowboy:

This filter is a little longer than the original OEM filter #90915-YZZD1 so it has a larger volume capacity. I know people love Wix and other aftermarket filters but you can't go wrong with a Toyota filter and it's just as high or higher quality than anything aftermarket, in my humble opinion.

If your engine is fairly clean on the inside, drive in a fairly clean average road, and you stick with 5k mil oil changes, I would stick with 90915-YZZD1 at $3.90 ea.
Get the better cleaning oil filters like the ones mentioned above if you have the extra coin or need an oil filter that needs the extra capacity of holding the extra dirt between oil changes.

Thanks, I am going to try doing a synthetic oil change since I have replaced most engine seals a year ago... when I do that I will probably push the intervals to 7k miles... do you think the longer filter will last that long?

Yes, that filter will be ok for that interval no problem.

Thanks, I looked into the purolator but the Bosch actually holds more capacity and is even cheaper. I decided against the OEM because I need a filter than can last like your OCI because I will be switching to full synthetic since I changed most engine seals one year ago.

I’ve been using the larger size in the Motorcraft FL400S from Walmart for around 3.75 a filter. Oil is always cheaper there too.

OEM Toyota zz3's can be had for about 3.95 each through camel back or McGeorge...or whomever. For 5 cents more than the zz1's why not increase filter element and capacity...not much..1/2 cup maybe...but why not ? When I have to order parts I order a few filters too, will now be adding my sons taco filter to my list, and save about $3 per. Only prob is you have to have so many dollars in parts for free shipping..but with waiting for something big I need and order a bunch of filters, usually not an issue.
Toyota Airfilters are cheap too, on line and have them on my list.

This or the Napa equivalent 1516 filter. It fits our truck and is an oversized filter. Same as the Motorcraft FL400S. I just don't like Motorcraft/Bosch because they're made by Purolator which had issues with the filter media tearing a few years back. Not sure if they fixed that by now.

I've used tundra filters and buy a 5 qt jug plus an extra and I'd use the whole jug and about 1/3 to 1/2 quart. You know 3.4L to 4.7L...
It's negligible. The standard 5L oil jugs fill our engines perfectly.

Does the filter "Meet or Exceed OEM specification "? That's the important detail. Napa filter is a rebadged Wix that "Meet or Exceed OEM specification ".
Avoid filters that promise High Quality. Whose high quality? "Meet or Exceed OEM specification " is the only spec that matters.

I find it interesting you're discarding the thought of using OEM and are buying the Bosch because of their claims about their filters. Whose to say the Bosch folks aren't full of shit? What's backing up their claims about what their filter can do?
A guy did a tear down comparison of a bunch of different brand oil filters a while back. Here's what he said about the OEM filters:
Here is the Toyota OEM. The biggest filter in the pack. When set side to side with other filters its about an 1 inch to 1 1/2 taller than the other filters. This by far has the most paper filter on it. The paper is very different from the others. It soft yet dense with volume. It also has a plastic seal seal on it before us. Very fancy!
This was his conclusion:
So after opening up all these filters and seeing with my own eyes what did I conclude? Dont buy fram or pennzoil. K&N and Mobil1 is NOT worth the $10. STP is the same thing as the high performance advertise oil fitlers, but at 5 bucks which came out to the biggest oil shocker for me. AcDelco is average maybe less than average. Bosch(Purolator) is a solid design and great for its price. Toyota OEM is a great filter. I bought a case of 10 for 5 bucks each at Twos R Us. You cannot go wrong with oem. TRD for 14 bucks and fancy paper material is unknown to me. Unless I have a crazy rev happy engine I would not spend 14 bucks on an oil filter. Maybe Im just cheap.
If you guys have anymore questions on what else to look for on these filters before I throw them all away feel free to ask away. Hate to throw away 70 bucks in unused oil filters.

A 7500 mile oil change interval doesn't require a special filter. If an OCI of 7500 miles was pushing the limits of oil filters, there'd be people blowing up engines left and right. There's so many people who abuse the crap out of their vehicles and either don't ever change the oil or maybe do it every 10-20k.
A friend of mine a very long time ago who was a paid mechanic advised me to always buy OEM oil filters and I followed his advice and have always bought OEM filters for my vehicles. Anyway, I've blabbed enough. Good luck with your Bosch filters.
