New here and this is my first post so be gentle. I am a memeber of several other forums so I know the rules and most forums operate the same way. so here it goes....

Just bought a 97 4Runner and did my first oil change.....and what a PIA with all of the skid plates and stuff. I did a search but nothing came up. Anyone ever do a oil filter relocation on a 4Runner? If so where did you get the kit and where did you monyt it too?

You can reach the oil filter by turning you tires left and reaching in the driver's side wheel well. You might have to move the mud guard out of the way.

Thanks for the link. Due to the lack of response I take it that it's not a popular idea......so let me ask this then, when removing the oil filter how do you keep it from spilling all over the place......what is the secret?

Reaching into the wheel well is one way to limit the spillage. Not entirely possibly to avoid it. I just spill some everytime and have come to terms with it.

go in through the wheel well, as suggested. lay a newspaper or similar down on the skid plate where the oil drips. reach in to take off the filter with a grocery bag or similar and let it fall in to the bag. you can get pretty good at it after a few times. I only spill a little bit of oil on my changes.

the trick is to do all your own oil changes so you never have to fight a filter that someone over tightened.
