Oil Filter Relocation

I think I see what Singtoe is implying; instead of a relocation kit you should just swap in a 4.7L to make the filter easier to get to.

Jeez, thanks for the information.

I will agree with the author of this thread. The first time i did an oil change on the 4runner I was cursing the toyota engineers for putting it in such a hard place to reach. Now that I have purchased one of those snap over plastic caps its not to hard to get off with a socket extention. I just turn the wheel all the way to the left and go in through the well.

Now that I have the plastic snap cap I wouldn't bother adding a relocation kit. It will not lower pressure, there is now more oil in the system, but to me it adds unnessecary cost and another place for leaks to occur.

Thanks for all the input guys.

It's not a matter of getting at the filter as after 11 years, I've figured that out. I just hate the oil spilling out of the thing after you remove the filter and then getting all over everything and then when I think I have it all cleaned up, the next time I park in my driveway (on hill) I end up with a puddle. Just annoying. I've tried everything and no matter what, the oil ends up everywhere.

Roll out some plastic sheeting, drain system completely before removing filter, then wipe down. If you are getting puddles you have a problem somewhere.
