Oil Filter Relocation

I would like to relocate my oil filter for purely the sake of convenience (but I like that it may help cool better, too). Any suggestions what kit to use (amsoil, permacool, others) and where the best new location is? Like I said, this is a convenience thing so I'm not really looking for dual filters, but I'm not against them either.

I saw someone had a dual filter Amsoil setup relocated right in front of the radiator (can't find the post anymore). I would also like to add a tranny cooler in front of the radiator and I am wondering if adding too much stuff there will reduce the airflow/cooling ability. This is a V-8, so it already has the additional engine oil cooler already (don't think the v-6 has it).

I do tow a 3000# travel trailer through the mountains each summer, but I haven't used this truck to do it yet - only used my old 99, but now she's gone. :sobbing: However, I am looking forward to having the power of the v-8 this summer. :zoom:

IMHO filter relocation kits are a bad idea.. I had one for about 6 month on my 1996 with 3.4 L.. Long story short: one of the hoses started to leak (right on the middle of the hose) I caught it just by looking under hood one day

A member koz on here has the Amsoil dual bypass install. I ran this same set up on a tacoma with great results and no problems what so ever.

In no way am I trying to bad-mouth you...if the oil filter is too troublesome, you should get a different vehicle.

I'm sure you purchased the 4Runner for its durability, reliability & awesomeness-ability!!

I would go for the Amsoil dual remote set up and mount it to the front bumper reinforcement like Koz did. I plan on installing one on my 4runner in the same spot. There's plenty of room there w/o restricting airflow to the radiator. V8 4runners use and aux. trans cooler in front of the radiator from the factory and a liquid to oil, oil cooler that is mounted above the oil filter adapter.

I wasn't sure what he meant either, at first, because I thought the cooler that sits in front of my radiator was an auxilary engine oil cooler. After doing more research, I realized that's not correct. There is a "liquid cooled" an engine oil cooler that is mounted between the block and the oil filter (see this thread for more information than you could possible want on the subject). The thing that looks like a tiny radiator mounted in front of the real radiator is the external factory aux. tranny cooler, which is aircooled. Both V6's and V8's have tranny coolers built into the radiator (like most all vehicles with auto trannys do) which may actually serve to warm the tranny fluid necessarily cool it . V6's don't have the external aux. tranny cooler, but many owners add them.

Can anyone find Koz's thread that show his install of the dual oil filter setup. I can't find it for the life of me!

The V8 oil cooler is a liquid to liquid heat exchanger that uses engine coolant to cool the engine oil.

Thanks. Is this type of thing standard on all vehicals or are we "special"?

My TPI Camaro used one as well as my Z52 corvette. I have seen them on 22re turbo engines from the factory as well as toyota 3.0 v6's and I believe my 3.4 Tacoma had one as well. HD diesel engines have been using them for many years as well. So I guess you could say that they are some what common on certain vehicles.
