Oil filter size - V6

Hey all...I like to do my own oil changes so I went to get a new filter, and all the info I keep coming up with for filter size is #3614. This filter looks to be half the size of the factory filter.

Has anybody out there used a bigger filter for your V6, and if so, what is the filter part number?

Thanks in advance.

just get a filter from your toyota dealer. they make great filters.

Think the reason he was asking is because a bigger filter would hold a little more oil which some people like.

i guess i misinterpreted the question. i thought he was saying that the aftermarket filters he's finding are smaller than the stock one, and the he wants one the size of the stock one.

3614 is actually about 3/4 the size of the factory filter. I'm not sure what filter the factory really is but all the aftermarket stuff points to 3614 for the v6 & v8. Go figure. I'm just going to order about a half dozen filters online.

Alright, problem solved. I went to the Toyota dealer and bought a filter from them. It is larger than the filters that are available at Auto Zone and the like, and it's probably better.

The parts guy told me that in general, the larger the filter the better, as it'll obviously trap more dirt and debris and clean the oil better than a small filter.

Works for me.

Oh by the way - I LOVE MY NEW TRUCK! Best vehicle I've ever owned.
