Oil Filter

I have some questions regarding the oil filter for our rigs..

currently, I'm using the 90915-YZZG1 and I'm on my last one.

I'm thinking about trying this one out..

or should I try the Napa Gold.. since they are made by WIX...

and another question.. with summer here, I'm thinking about swapping out to 10w30.. or should I stay with 5w30? cause at night, it doesn't even get below 60 degrees F.. I doubt I would need the 5w30 pouring at -0..

I usually just get what's on sale at the local auto parts store. An oil filter isn't usually something I get all worked up over especially for a truck. I usually try to be mindful, but not as much as I would be for a performance vehicle.

I recommend Purolator PL20195 PureONE

It is oversize with more filter media, which means it filters longer with less of a pressure drop.

I like the OEM or puralators for filters. I say go for it if the price isnt to steep. I have been running 5w-30 and never had oil pressure problems in the summer. If its knocking I would up the oil weight but if it aint broke.......

yeah.. since I just use the last filter that I had on the oil change today.. I'm thinking about picking up an case and save a few bucks.. $40 shipped for an case is dobale.. since dealer is $4.50 + tax per filter..

figure with 271k.. she is still running good.. no knocking what so ever with 5w30.. figure give it a few months, I will change the oil again for the fall/winter season..

The D1 and G1 both work on the 5VZ. IMO the Toyota filters are the best for the money since they have the most filter media. Wix and other brands are good but usually more expensive than a filter at the dealer and have less filter media. 5W30 and 10W30 are both fine. I've done changes with both and nothing has happened.

I ran the G1 but it doesn't have the pre-oiled gasket like the D1 does..

I like NAPA gold filters. I am using Mobile 1 10W 30 high mileage oil. 255k on mine now. But in all reality, I don't think I can come up with one instance of anyone I know that has had a motor go bad do to an oil filter since I have been driving. I think it is more of a peace of mind thing we do when it comes to oil and filters for our vehicles. It's all in what you are comfortable using.

But in all reality, I don't think I can come up with one instance of anyone I know that has had a motor go bad do to an oil filter since I have been driving. I tried a Fram once on my old Celica GT-S with the 3SGE engine. Because the anit drain back valve in the Fram didn't work and the filter sat upside down more or less it would rattle pretty bad on start up since every start up would have to re-fill the filter before actually sending oil to the head.

I now use K&N filters and usually only change them every other change. I was using the Toyota before they switched the country of manufacture from Japan. I would probably still use them in a pinch if there was a dealer here that I could stand to buy from or stocked up from somewhere I wanted to support.

Tell that to the guys that run fram filters


Truthfully the filter is more important than the oil. Most Dino oil are so similar that brand doesn't matter too much.
wix/napa gold are great filters for the money
Baldwin / Mobil 1 k & n amsoil


I buy Mobil 1 EP from AutoZone when on sale 33.99 with the Mobil 1 filter (m1 209)

As I said, I personally have never heard of nor had issues with oil filters. I never said it never happened. But for the few instances it did, in regards to all the others that never had problems, the percentages would be minute. Otherwise I seriously doubt Fram would still be selling filters.
