Oil filters

So normally this wouldn't be an issue for me but I've read on this forum that you can switch around and get larger oil filters rather then the ones you would normally get. I'd like a little input about this if anyone has any, I normally use k&n but I'm leaning towards going back to stock Toyota filters, if there's any gains or if it helps with maintaining the vehicle in better shape

My original filter is
90915-yzzd1

The larger filter is
90915-yzzd3

Also should I go back to Toyota oil? I run mobil1 synthetic all the time.

Honestly I went with the oversized wix oil filter # 51516 and all is well it does take a little more oil but the way I look at it is there is more filter and thus filters more oil faster but I may be wrong there are a few threads about this ill see if I can find a link.

I usually run the stock filter. It's cheaper and better quality than the others. Also use Mobile 1 synthetic in it. I ordered a case of the stock sized oem filters and it was like $3.80 a piece. FWIW. Got them on amazon. Did the same for my corolla and just keep them in the cabinet. I think the oversized is an extra .5 qt of oil, which makes changes super easy (6 qts total)

Oil is oil IMO. Lots of people think whatever they have is the best. Just keep checking it and changing it and your T4R will be happy.

I say keep it simple... Go Toyota and that's it, don't mess with a larger one just keep it simple and clean. But that's just what I would do

I've been using the Toyota D3 for 2 tears now on my 3rz. It is the same as the D1 just a little longer. Holds a bit more oil, has a bit more filter media surface area. Its Toyota OEM and fits right in. Why not really?

No reason not to run the larger D3 filter, more capacity is a good thing. Wix, OEM, K&N, are all good. The 5VZ is not picky about oil but i'm of the opinion M1 is superior to Toyota oil and often cheaper.

I've been using WIX 51516 but I'm sure there isn't really a big deal between all of them. Personally I'm not a fan of FRAM or Microgard but really, they probably filter oil just fine.

Obviously if you want to skip all the doubt just buy the Toyota filters because they're great too.
