Oil in TB, vacuum hose?

I did the ISR mod a few weeks ago and noticed some oil in the TB, looks like its coming from the vacuum hose in the picture. I cleaned it up and researched a bit and thought maybe it was the PCV but this hose leads to the rear of the moter. Just last night I replaced the ISR with a Airaid and there was a little oil in there again. I know its not the K&N because I found the oil before I put that in. Here are some pictures. Anyone know whats goin on?

does that one go to the other side of the valve cover? emissions? vally pan area under the intake? not exactly sure where that line goes with out getting off my butt and going to take a look.

you will get some oil residue on the inside of your throttle body from your PCV valve on the passenger side valve cover. up front.

It connects to the intake hose just before the TB. When I take it off there is a small amount oil. My truck never smokes which I have read about. If you follow the hose it goes to the back, by the firewall, of the valve cover on the right side (drivers side). It does not connect to the PCV valve. I briefly looked at my PCV Valve and it looks new.

Are you talking about the breather hose. If you are, It is quite normal to have some oil residue.

If it is really bad, then you have excessive blow by on your piston rings (worn engine)

It doesn't seem bad, but of course I don't have anything to compare it to. I guess I will ask the dealership when I bring it in for the next oil change.

See if you have any blue or white smoke from the tailpipe on first start-up in the morning.

If you want to really get to the crux of the problem, perform both a dry and wet compression test. My .02 is bad valve guides, but YMMV.

As said, some oil is normal.
Another possible cause of excessive oil could be a bad PCV valve (positive crankcase ventilation). The tube in question should be the air into the crankcase and the PCV valve should be the suction out of the crankcase.

Throttle opener

In the op's pics it looks like that vacuum hose is connected to the throttle opener, see this diagram: http://www.mr2.com/files/mr2/techinfo/Random FSM Data/3vzVS5vz.pdf

Not sure that helps but I've been trying to figure out why mine doesn't have that connected yet purrs like a kitten at idle and roars like a lion down the road. I've heard it was only used on pre-2000 units? Pic below is from an '01.

On the 01/02, they have a catch filter to reduce this oil. The filter is shown on the left/top of your picture. The line should still connect to the intake tube.

Thanks for the prompt response Gerdo. I'll take another look at that afterwork today. That's been bothering me for a while...

In the OP's first picture, the larger brownish hose (he attached another hose to reach the new connection). This hose usually connects to the side of the rubber elbow before the throttle body.

From what I read and keeping an eye on mine it seems to be normal. I was really worried after reading about the oil blow by in the pistons but I never have any white smoke at all from the exhaust. Just to be safe I replaced the PCV valve with one from the dealership.

I have also detailed the motor and since then everything looks fine with only one leak which could be a bad one. I seem to have oil leaking from one of my spark plugs. I have a tiny bit of residue built up around the top of the spark plug hole.

With that all said the motor is running amazing. I just pulled a loaded 6x12 uhaul trailer from AZ to Seattle without any issue.

Any idea what this part number is or any details on it? Would it be worth looking into for a pre 01?

I just installed my airaid and found I have the same situation. I have a '97 with 317K miles. I have a little white smoke at startup, but no noticeable oil consumption between oil changes. Sounds like there is no solution to the oiley breather/vacumme hose?

I ended up using an air compressor airfilter/moisture separator. Did two, one from the pcv back into the intake and then the other hose that comes from I believe the firewall side of the drivers side of the motor back into the intake. The one from the pcv seems to catch oil more consistently, however, the one along the firewall does catch oil occasionally and it seems to be in higher volumes when it does. I haven't pulled that j-fitting off let to see if it has solved the problem, I assume it has though.

Would plugging the intake hole and adding one of these breather filter things to the vacumme line work? I'm guessing not since it has never been mentioned.

Myrunr2010 Do you have a link to the separators you used?

I just used whatever it is they sell at home Depot in their tool section. I think it was husky brand. When I get home from work tonight I can post some pictures of what I used and how I did it.
