oil leak 3.4 l motor

guys- I have an oil leak that I am trying to find- just finished sealing the rear cam cover of each head as well as each valve cover gasket. the seams are now bone dry- issue I am still having is the rear crossover exhaust pipe that goes from the drivers side to the passenger side- the heat shield has oil pooling on the bottom of the shield. I can't figure out where the oil is coming from?? Where else can oil seep out of on the rear of the motor? My rear main seal can be leaking as well but I assume the oil will drip downward- not up?? Help- thanks!

Have you checked your OIL COOLER? Sometimes the O-rings wear out and leak. Not a real complicated fix.

Cam seal plug or semi circular plug in the rear. My $$$ is on the former.

Ditto. But since you need to pull off the valve cover you'd might as well do both to eliminate possible sources.

try using Ultra Violet Dye kits it's a nice little tool to diag different fluid leaks. I had a oil leak that was near the common area's on the 3.4 with the kit it turned out my head was cracked... I have no clue of what cause it but it was cracked from the head gasket up.

when I installed a new valve cover gasket, I sealed the half circle plug as well as the rear cam seal plug on both sides. Using a mirror on a stick, I checked both sides and they are bone dry! Tomorrow I am picking up the dye that I will add to my oil. Still can't figure out how oil is dripping from the bottom of the heat shield when no oil is showing up on the top. My transmission is acting up a bit- not sure if oil can make its way up to the bottom of the heat shield??- maybe it is the transmission that is leaking??? Torque converter- not sure if oil can make its way up through the top of the transmission shield? My oil cooler is leaking a tiny bit- usually a drop or two- but the bottom of my oil pan and the bottom of the transmission is caked with oil- which is directly underneath the bottom of that one heat shield..........thanks!

Found one more leak that I would never think to look at- on the firewall there is the rad fluid valve that allows coolant to go into the cabin for the heater. that and a hose or two were leaking rad fluid. Fluid was old so it had a brown color that looked like engine oil. That is what was dripping down from the rear heat shield! Replaced all three hoses and the valve- no more drips! Only leak left is oil is seeping out of the passenger side header bolt??? took a nut off of one of the top header bolts on the top side of the header- cleaned it and used some rtv on the threads- over a day or two the nut/bolt was bone dry- doing the same with the bolt/nut on the bottom side of the header bolt tonight. still have a bit of oil on the backside of the oil pan. I will replace the oil pan gasket next- has anyone replaced the gasket on a 2wd 4runner? Looks like the oil pan will drop down without any interference........
