Oil leak causes?

I might be a conspiracy theorist but consider this;
I took my truck to a local shop for an assessment of my wheel bearing noise. It was confirmed that both front bearings were bad. They also provided me with a list from their "thorough" inspection telling me of the condition of my brakes, etc and recommending other services. They did not mention anything about a leak or oil being all over the undercarriage.
When I got down to replace my splash guards I noticed a smell which led me to look under and I found oil under rear main seal and scattered back from there from blowing.

Is this a coincidence or could they have done something to gain further business? Is it possible to do something to create that leak?

I just find it strange that there was no mention by trained mechanics and I noticed it.

Thoughts?

did they not take off the skid plate to see where the leak could be coming from?

Obviously I don't know the shop in question but damaging vehicles to get more business would catch up to a shop VERY quickly and they'd be run out of business.

The shop made no mention of a leak so they didn't inspect for it. I noticed it which made me question the whole scenario. Mine is a V6 2wd and I didn't need to remove any plate to see that there was oil leaking from somewhere. Looks like rear main to me but I'm not a mechanic. There have been no drips only driveway until a few days after I left the shop

I was questioning because they put together a list after an inspection of my truck but made no mention of leaks. I just find it strange that all of a sudden, after my only repair in 45,000 miles, there is a leak that could become quite costly.

May not be a 'real' leak, maybe just some hand sprayed oil to fool you.

Clean it all up really well and keep an eye on it. You'll know soon enough.

I had a similar issue with my 08 V6 @ 163k miles. Thought it was a rear main leak after switching to synthetic oil. Coated the undercarriage, puddles on driveway. Changed oil with Valvoline MAxLife Red, leak stopped after 1,000 miles. Continue to use MAxLife Red, leak free for last 60k miles.

Mine is leaking at the same spot. Anyone fixed this leak yet? I pulled the plastic cover and shoved in a shop towel. I think that has stopped it for now. I will check it this weekend to see if it just dammed it up. I'm leaning toward it being the rear main oil seal. Guess it's time to change the filter in the trans anyways.
