Oil Leak??

Was changing the oil on my 2005 4wd 4runner V6 with 105k miles.

How easy my life is now with the position of the filter and the catch!!!

Noticed some evidence of a leak. I cleaned it all up and drove around the block and I didnt notice anything afterwards.

Anyone know what it might be?

By the way, the cleaned up pics are from after I drove it around for a while.

Looks like your rear main seal is leaking. I rarely see those leak on 4.0l Runners though. Hope im wrong because that can be a costly repair.

I think you may be right. I am going to keep an eye on it but from what I read on the forum it sounds right. The only other thing it may be is the pan gasket leaking or maybe the drain plug gasket... Do you know if either of those look like it? If it is the rear main seal, what is the long term problems I will have if i dont fix it? I still had over 5qts of oil come out after 4K miles so it cant be that bad of a leak..

I dont think it looks like the drain plug gasket. Have you ever changed it before? If not it is a cheap gasket worth replacing. If I remember the manual suggest changing it every oil change but dont quote me on that. I'd say pan gasket or rear main.

Yeah, it was just hopes. No, this is the first time I have changed it.

Does anyone have experience with this? Is this something I need fixed ASAP or can I wait on it? I am not sure what to do or how serious it is.

Yes, its the rear main seal leaking. I am going to an indy reliable mechanic he is charging $750, not terrible. The dealer wanted $2300!!

Yea thats a great deal compared to what we charge.
